This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Journey to the Purple Planet (Video Game)
The good: If your kids love Dora they are gonna LOVE this game. The graphics are good, the controls are easy, it's fairly repetitive (in the good way that kids like...once they master a few basic controls they will really enjoy this. All the "planets" are the same in terms of controls but just present a different "maze") and it is just like the cartoon. There's no death and if a mission is failed Dora just gets to give it another try. It's very appropriate for ages 3-6. I actually had to force my kid off the PS after THREE HOURS of continous playing Dora on her birthday. The kids do think it's fun.
The bad: $30 is too much for this game if you have an older child. My 6 y/o is advanced enough that she mastered the PS2 controls in about 15 mins and beat the game in 3 days! I think she spend about 7 total playing hours. I could have rented it for 5 bucks! I was disappointed just because it was too short for an older child and Dora does have many 5 and 6 y/o fans. I think it could have stayed at the same difficulty level and been a little longer and satisfied all the age groups. My advice: Ages 3-4 this should be excellent if they're Dora or Diego fans! Ages 5-6......pick up a used copy or rent it unless they don't have any experience with PS2...otherwise it's liable to be too short. If you bought your kids the first Dora PS game for PSone this one is along the same lines, just better graphics and different "challenges". Also my daughter does still request to play it from time to time so it must have some "replayability" factor.

Our 4-year old daughter loves this game. I wish there were more like it for the "early childhood" category. She is able to play it by herself and says she likes it because "no one dies in Dora and you get to explore every planet everywhere". It's a well done game with nice graphics (though I think Dora looks like those Bobblehead collectibles) and a happy atmosphere. It's a teaching game that builds skills and confidence and lets kids disappear into this fun world with bubbles and bouncing and fun kid-stuff. Plus, what kid of any age wouldn't like to fly a spaceship and collect treasure?

This game is perfect for my 3 1/2 year old. She can't die or do anything wrong and have to start over. Dora also explains what to do in each situation and sometimes shows a picture of when to press the action button.
I think this would be a good choice for someone who wants to share their time spent playing PS2 with their children. The only thing that I really thought could be improved is the graphics could have been better. I wish there were more early childhood games, like this one, for the PS2. 2115|R3T5DEAQRQCHIX;2115|R2MQY77TK9QZK9;2115|R1CRQ0PTI0NHVH;
