4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Adventure for the Little Ones!
Our four-year-old daughter loves Dora the Explorer, so we were delighted to see the release of Lost City Adventure. The reviews so far have been raves from the little one (and from us). 1.0 out of 5 stars NOT For kids under 5! TOO HARD!
My son is 3 and a half. He has mastered many games like Jumpstart Preschool, etc.. This game is way to difficult for him. There are numbers moving on the wall, so he not only has to identify the numbers but try to click on them as they move past. I would HIGHLY not recommend this game for younger kids under the age of 5.

Our four-year-old daughter loves Dora the Explorer, so we were delighted to see the release of Lost City Adventure. The reviews so far have been raves from the little one (and from us). The animation, music and sound are first rate, but more importantly, the challenges are appropriately measured for a pre-schooler. This program stacks up well against the Knowledge Adventure titles like Reader Rabbit. Skills such as sequencing, color matching, memory and basic addition are developed in fun and entertaining environments. Plus, there are three difficulty levels, so if your child is frustrated or bored at a certain level, you can adjust accordingly.

The program works great using the Classic environment on our Macintosh G4 laptop and G3 desktop computers. Have fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this!!, November 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Lost City Adventure [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
My 3 1/2 year-old daughter was so excited to receive the Lost City Adventure we had to play it as soon as she opened it! So to make a really long story short....The software has a problem! The first one we purchased had sound problems (so choppy we couldn't understand anything.) We purchased another one thinking it was a software flaw....same problem. Our computer had more than the required systems. After an hour of trouble shooting we called tech support. They tech support was not at all surprised to hear our plight. It appears that there is a problem with the program and they immediately asked us to send the software back. They are replacing it with other software but not giving back our $$. I guess if I pushed it they may have given us a refund. Your best bet would be to wait until a new version comes along!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2 year old LOVES it. Great fun!, March 18, 2003

My oldest daughter loves Dora and took to this game immediately. She loves to sit on my lap and play and our father-daughter time is often spent on the computer. She can't get enough.

The 3 levels offer a nice change for children that are getting bored with the game. Some puzzles she plays at level 1 where some puzzles she plays at level 3.

The game is VERY educational and fun and it follows the same format as the cartoon does. She'll turn 3 soon and she still loves it.

I'd also recommend Dora's Backpack Adventure (they make a trip to the library), Little People Discovery Airport, Winnie the Pooh (where Pooh gathers all the friends for Eyores birthday party) and Mickey Mouse (where Mickey and Minnie stop off at Goofy's gas station / Daisey's diner).

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth The Money - 2 1/2 year old son loves it, January 26, 2003

I have bought almost every software title I can for Blue's Clues, Winnie, Disney, Dalmations etc... This Dora game holds my son's attention more than any other except the Tonka Trucks game. It works well on my PC and also plays well on our Imac.
If you do have a Mac run it on OS 9.3 or lower. OS X doesn't like it much.

If your child loves Dora and is under 5 buy this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much to it., January 23, 2003

If you have a child that loves Dora and you have [amount] to spend, go for it. Otherwise, steer clear. Here are my reasons:

*There is not much replay value in the game. It is the same set of tasks to perform each time you play and they always come in the same order.
*There is not a large variety of things to do (Discovery Airport was the same price and it seems to have a lot more to do).
*The tasks that are performed do not seem have much educational value when compared to other software like the Jumpstart line.
*The product seems like it was put together quickly so it could be rushed to market in order to capitalize on Dora's popularity.

Having said all of this, I will admit that the graphics are nice. It does look like the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game!, December 26, 2002

I bought this game for my 3 1/2 year old daughter. She loves Dora and I knew she would love the game. My 5 year old daughter loves it to, she just plays the higher level. It has a lot of fun learning activities and it is really cute. I'm really impressed. I've bought several computer games in the past few years, but this is the best one I've seen yet.

There is very little interaction so it's more like a cartoon with four short activities thrown in. The activities don't have a repeat option so when they're done, you're forced to move on.

The graphics are nice but we could get almost the same amount of interaction with the TV show. A big disappointment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is a Fine Game, July 26, 2003
By
This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Lost City Adventure [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
This is a fine game. I do not think it is as educational as it is billed. However, beyond that, it is a cute game and follows the traditional Dora method... You have a problem and you look at the map and use the things in the back pack to reach the final destination and collect the final item you need.

It is my opinion that there are better software games that are educational available. I would probably buy some of the Freddie Fish games and JumpStart games before I would buy this game.

I rated it a low three stars (or possibly a high two stars) for several reasons: 1- My son quickly grew bored with this game and stopped playing it after only a few weeks. 2- The voice of Dora is annoying and 3- I don't find Dora educational, and this software is the same- it's not very educational. It doesn't really teach Spanish although Dora will use Spanish once in a while. It doesn't really teach problem solving since the backpack and map and characters Dora runs across pretty much tell her what she needs to do and how.

Enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good for active children, January 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Lost City Adventure [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I bought this software for my nieces... and they were pretty excited to see Dora on the box. They ripped it open with glee and we installed it.

Well, I guess Quality Control is missing in the Lost City - the software simply wasn't translating my mouse clicks in a standard way, and so interacting with the software became a adventure! The software worked great in terms of seeing and hearing Dora... but when we tried to interact with Dora and her friends, well, that was an exercise in frustration!

As a software developer, I found it unusable. Totally unusable. It was so wrong, I sent a note to tech support.

Tech support responded in a day or two, but unfortunately their reply didn't offer any advice in correcting my usability issue.

I suggest something else - my nieces were very disappointed. I was disappointed too.
