Dora Casa is Mucho Fun and Well Worth the Dinero!, September 8, 2004

This review is from: Dora Explorer: Dora's Talking Dollhouse w/Lights, Sounds, Music & Diego, Boots, Swiper - Exclusively at Toys"R"Us! (Toy)
Out of all the Dora the Explorer toys we own the Talking Dollhouse is the best one yet!
No assembly required. The roof lifts up to expose the second floor, which has flaps to expand for even more floor space. The home décor is colorful, warm and inviting and includes some raised, 3-D type details. The hinged downstairs floor retracts so the house can be folded up for easy storage. Two posts on the front porch can serve as handles. I only wish Fisher Price had included some type of latch to secure the house once folded so that it wouldn't pop open when you move it. The house comes with Dora and her Mami and Papi. All have movable arms and legs and swiveling heads. All bend at the waist so they can sit on the cool furniture. Papi's knees also bend.
The best feature is the bilingual phrases. My daughters, ages 4 yrs 8 months and 2 yrs 10 months, have already expanded their knowledge of Spanish from single vocabulary words to actual sentences. The on/off switch and speaker are located in the hallway. Some of the talking household objects offer more than one phrase, so keep pushing them! I tried to catch all of the phrases, but I may have missed some of the Spanish translations. They are:
Push front door bell. "Hola! Welcome to my home! Bienvenida a mi casa." "Who's ringing the doorbell?"
Push family picture in foyer. "Here is my family." "I love my family." "Aqui esta mi familia."
Push radio in foyer. "Let's dance." "Vamos a bailar." "I love to listen to la radio." Also plays two short Latin songs.
Open fridge door. "I'm hungry. Tengo hambre." "Let's get something to eat from the refridgerator."
Push oven controls. "tick tock tick tock DING! Yum! That smells delicious!" "What's cooking in the oven?" "What's cooking in el horno?" Oven also lights up.
Pull down bookshelf. Turns into kitchen table. "Time to eat." "A hora de comer." "Let's get ready to eat in the kitchen." "Let's get ready to eat in la cocina."
The house comes with accessory room furnishings that I also recommend. Several pieces serve dual purposes. For example, the blue living room couch folds out into a bed. The dining room table serves 4 for dinner or pulls out to reveal a birthday party, cake included! Push in a lever on Dora's bed and it splits into bunk beds. I rated this toy a 4 for durability because the tail on the Boots figurine snapped off. My daughter claims she doesn't know how it happened!
This dollhouse inspires hours of imaginative play and is well worth the dinero!

great but furniture hard to find, November 9, 2004

All three of my kids love to play with this dollhouse, ages 6, 4 &2. It's very durable and they love to play with their favorite characters, Dora, Boots, and Swiper.
Best of all, it's even suitable for a little boy - my four year old son loves it. I like that it has two sides rather than just upstairs and downstairs - it allows more than one child to play easily.
My suggestion for the holidays is to look at the loving family dollhouse furniture. It is the same size and price and much easier to find. This dollhouse comes with just a couch & some built in furniture, along with the family members, mom, dad, dora, boots, swiper, and diego. Not all have the bonus characters so look for boots, swiper and diego to be included.

I bought this Colorful Dollhouse for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She just adores Dora and put this item in her memory banks after seeing the commercial. I originally planned to purchase it for Christmas, but I couldn't wait (I'm a big kid myself!). My daughter and I played with it for over an hour together and she continued well after I was done. I love the spanish/english phrases. I forgot to pull the tag off the bottom after opening and thought we had to ring the bell everytime we wanted to hear something. Since I found it my daughter just can't get enough of opening and pushing all the activation areas. There are 2 drawbacks for me 1. I purchased it without the furniture, but I will be purchasing it soon. 2. The cabinets and oven don't open. My daughter kept trying to open the oven and finally realized (after many tries), that it just doesn't open (If you fisher price people read this...it would be a great idea if you have more opening items in the kitchen.
Overall I think it is great, I purchased it long before I planned to and I will be purchasing another this weekend as a birthday present for a family member! Enjoy!!!
