5.0 out of 5 stars A very nice scooter for young kids
I bought this when Amazon was directly selling them with free shipping and it was also on sale for $14.

I was weary when ordering it becuase of the description of the size:

"Measures 10 inches long by 4-1/2 inches wide by 12-1/4 inches tall"

I have no idea where they got those measurements. Its quite a bit larger than that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wheel bolts cut ankles
We bought these scooters for our 3 year old twins. Cute scooters... very sturdy and they love that they can carry their snacks or cups to the park in the little handle-bar bag. However, both kids have cut up their ankles on these scooters because the back wheels have little bolts that stick out. They don't stick out too far, but enough to catch their little ankles when...

We bought these scooters for our 3 year old twins. Cute scooters... very sturdy and they love that they can carry their snacks or cups to the park in the little handle-bar bag. However, both kids have cut up their ankles on these scooters because the back wheels have little bolts that stick out. They don't stick out too far, but enough to catch their little ankles when they are scooting along. I am going to try to find bolt covers at a hardware store - hopefully that will help.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a very good scooter, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Dora the Explorer Three-Wheeled Scooter (Sports)
I am also amazed at how many positive reviews there are on this scooter. I'll start off with the construction. My daughter is 4 years old and of average height. There is only room for one of her feet to be on the scooter. It's basically a one footed scooter. They really needed to extend the body of the scooter back about 6 inches to accomodate 2 feet so a youngster can coast with both feet on it. The entire rear wheel assembly is cheaply made. The screws that hold on the wheels not only stick out and hurt my daughter but they have fallen off twice. If you tighten the bolts too much then the wheels don't turn without a lot of friction on the cheap plastic bushings.

The pros, it's a DORA scooter with a cute backpack.

The handle bars are a minimum of 25" off the ground or 21" higher than the place where your feet go.

Its 23" long from back of the back wheel to the front of the front wheel.

My kids love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor design, June 29, 2007

I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews here. The back wheels are very poorly designed. The bolts stick out really far and my daughter is constantly banging her ankle on it, and ends up crying and throwing her scooter on the ground.

3.0 out of 5 stars Scooter fine, but the bag/backpack is cheap, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Dora the Explorer Three-Wheeled Scooter (Sports)
My daugher two and half loves the scooter, but the Dora bag/backpack that comes with it is useless. When I unpacked the scooter and put it together, the zipper on the bag didn't work and the strapes look like they were chewed thru, I'm sure it won't last a couple months. Kind of disappointing as she was looking forward to putting stuff in the bag, which I'll end up taking off and throwing out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent scooters., January 16, 2007
This review is from: Dora the Explorer Three-Wheeled Scooter (Sports)
My daughters are 3 and 4 and we bought 2 scooters, the girls really enjoy them. They were very easy to assemble. The wheels are a good size and my girls have an easy time riding them. The backpacks are not the greatest quality and broke very quickly: one zipper was broken, the other the backpack strap came unraveled and we had to cut it off, all within a week of purchase. We have not had problems with the actual scooters.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to ride, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Dora the Explorer Three-Wheeled Scooter (Sports)
My daughter was 3 when I bought her the scooter she is four now. She was never able to ride this scooter as it does not seem to be designed properly. Her left foot keeps hitting the back wheel so she can never get any speed -- i.e. she cant kick back. If she wanted to kick back she would have had to kick with her left foot quite far out from the scooter and that makes her loose her balance. So she kind of has to put her right foot on the scooter and jump on her left -- but eventually she will hit the back wheel with her left. I regret buying this. Also very cheaply made. Not worth the money. I'm a bit surprised about the number of positive reviews this scooter has received.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of the strudy one, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Dora the Explorer Three-Wheeled Scooter (Sports)
It is kind of small. Even a 3 year girl can hardly put both her feet on the skate at the same time. And it is made of light iron pipes. Would not buy it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid, junk, January 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I was wowed when I saw this had a 4 star rating, and was one of the things that prompted me to buy. Either there is a company spammer amongst us, or something else is going on (multiple manufacturing sites/runs?).

If you look at reviews of this same product on other websites, you will see it get panned mercilessly.

I bought this based on the good Amazon reviews, and was completely bummed at the shoddy product. Fell apart the same week that my 3 yr old got it. Wheels fell off, and I am no slouch when it comes to putting these things together.

Avoid like the plague if you ask me. There has to be better scooters out there.

I'm only giving it the one star because I can't give it zero!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, durable, safe, January 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dora the Explorer Three-Wheeled Scooter (Sports)
This scooter deserves its 5 stars for longevity alone. Amazon says that we bought it back in 2006 and our little girl - she's almost seven now - is still riding it in the basement and having fun, usually while I'm working out. She's riding a bike outside but, while in the basement, this is her favorite mount.

Briefly, I like this scooter because:

- it's durable - lasted for over 3 years already and, 3 years later, it's as good as new

- it's fun - our girl clearly enjoys riding it

- it's safe - thanks to the double wheel at the back she didn't fall off it even once

- it's a Dora - and she seems to like Dora again now

I would say you can't go wrong with this one as a gift for a 4-5 year old girl, especially if she's a Dora fan.
