Won't hold charge after using a few times. Starts to dim aftera few minutes of use after cranking it up for a minute.

Got this light last week and I like it so far. It winds easily and makes a cool whirling noise to keep the bears away while hiking in the mountains!I know the first two reviews aren't favorable but here's the trick to these self powered lights. These small rechargeable batteries are designed to keep a charge on them. If you buy one that's been on the shelf for a long while without being charged the batteries can loose their capacity to hold a charge. They are charged from the factory so the best time to purchase them is after a power outage when the stores have replenished the shelves... you will have a better chance of getting a "factory fresh" unit. Not foolproof but the odds of getting a longer lasting light are better. Don't buy them from the clearance rack! I've seen several youtube reviewers complaining of this also. Once you do buy the light be sure to crank it for a few minutes each month and never shelf it dead. Keeping it charged will extend the capacity of the batteries for a much longer time. Don't over charge though, lithium ion batteries could be damaged. Now back to the Light. It has 3 modes... off, on and flash. When on, the 3 main white LED's throw light ahead. Press the switch again and the 3 white LED's along with the 2 red lensed side markers flash. This is great for signaling. The rated 7.7 lumens won't blind anyone but it's enough light in an emergency. It has a 2032, 35mAh battery and one minute of winding is supposed to power the 3 LED's for 15 minutes. This info is from the Dorcy website and differs here. I wound it for about 5 minutes and it lasted for about an hour initially. This time should actually increase as the batteries are exercised more. The rubber knob on the sturdy crank handle locks into the light body and a lanyard can be attached to hang it. The shape of the light, crome crest above the lense and hazard type marker surrounding the switch gives it a weird retro look but that's okay. The yellow color makes sense and the ruber side grips work great. I hope this review helps everyone. Happy Lighting! Update 10/23/11: The light no longer works. Press the switch and the LED'S blink crazy and won't stay on! I took it back to the store for a refund. Gotta keep it honest!

I thought this would be good for black outs. I paid $20 and out of the box it never worked. The White LEDs onlystay lit as long as you crank. However the worthless amber side lights will light. I threw it away the first day.
