I've been using this light now for about ten days, and I'm consistently shocked by the brightness of the beam. In case you don't know, this light boasts 6 watts and 120 lumens. It is my understanding that lumen output is tough to rate for a flashlight, so I can only go by what I see. I own many different types of flashlights for different purposes ranging from a 2 million candlepower spotlight to a 3 watt Brinkman tactical light. I also own several different Maglight flashlights of varying sizes. This Dorcy light is the brightest pocketable light I currently own and it's even brighter than most of the large, non-pocketable lights I own. I've dropped it twice this week, so it's proven to be durable. It uses standard or rechargeable "AAA" batteries, and it is extremely bright. I do agree with the other reviewer that commented that the battery life indicator is a silly gimmick that gives the flashlight a cheaper appearance, but I don't think it's that bad. Another comment in the reviews made the assumption that a 6 watt LED will suck the batteries dry. I would have also made that same assumption, but so far the battery life seems fine. I always carry spare batteries, just in case, but in the past 10 days of moderate usage I haven't used my replacements yet. The beam is still more than twice as bright as any of the other lights I own. I'm very happy with this flashlight and I plan to buy another one for my camping pack.

Extremely bright LED flashlight. Well defined central beam. I work as an Aircraft Inspector and this has become my primary light. AAA batteries rather than expensive lithiums make it cost effective to operate.

GREAT LITTLE FLASHLIGHT!,

I received this flashlight as a gift. I used it this past Halloween while escorting my kids around the neighborhood from door-to-door. 3 hours of continuous use later, the flashlight was still shining brightly on the same set of Energizer AAA batteries, which was surprising to me. I expected this flashlight to eat batteries, but it was actually more efficient than typical bulb flashlights producing significantly less lumens. I am so impressed with this flashlight that I'm going to purchase one to keep in the car and another for my brother.

This was a bright flashlight when I got it, but after a few months of use the Red-green battery indicators quit working and some how pulls down the output of this flashlight to about half of its normal output of light. Also the idea of using rechargeable AAA was first appealing - but it too has had issues working correctly as the spring connectors became lose - I found my self pulling on the them to get a tighter contact with the battery for better contact. I have a had a good overall experience with Dorcy products and will continue to buy from Dorcy as I believe they give a great bang for the buck, - just in this case it was a great idea that did not seem to pan out for me. Note: I have sense bought a Dorcy flashlight #41-4299 K2 Luxeon 220-Lumens Rechargeable LED Flashlight and LOVE IT, and you may want to check it out Also note if this flashlight had continued to work Properly I would rank this a FIVE STAR as it was wonderful at first :) amazon is the best :)

Dorcy 6 Watt 3AAA K2 LED Flashlight,

I need to use a flashlight every time I am at work and often while enjoying activities. I am a bit of a flashlight junkie. I own flashlights that cost 10x more than this, but I am surprised to find it the brightest. I have found Dorcy flashlights to be durable, functional, and value priced. This appears to be no exception. The use of 'AAA' batteries is a plus for a flashlight that sees regular use.

This is a very bright light. It has what I'm looking for;cheap batteries, brightness, tailcap switch, and price. However, it doesn't seem as robust as the Metalgear 1-watt(which I've dropped 30 feet, dunked in sludge, thrown across the room...with only scratches to show for it.) It could also use a momentary-on switch. I'll re-review it after a couple weeks of work and a few callouts on the ambulance. Hope it holds up.

I have a different model of Dorcy flashlight and I am happy with it. However, I wanted another flashlight so I decided on this model. The other one is small and very bright. However, this model is super bright and still keeps a small lightweight design.I have not had any of the problems other reviewers have mentioned. The batteries were easy to install and the cap part screwed on easily. I have had my other Dorcy for several months. They both use 3 AAA batteries and about the same size. With moderate use I still have not had to replace the batteries in my older flashlight. I would assume the batteries in this current model will last just as long. If you want a reasonably priced, small but bright flashlight, then I highly recommend this one.

don't let the size fool you, this flashlight is MEGA bright! absolutely no comparison to other flashlights of same size! You will be absolutely thrilled with it. I am contemplating getting one for my purse, that way hubby and I each have one and I do not have to keep borrowing his!

Beyond that, not much to recommend it. A little too dinky for my likes. Uninspired design. Craftsmanship is not what I'd expect for a $35 flashlight! Looks and feels like any number of $10 flashlights that I own. The battery strength indicator is a plastic contraption that is more gimmick than anything else. Adds to the cheap look and feel of the whole thing. One need only look at the beam to see if the batteries are running down -- and one thing is for certain -- 3 AAA batteries are not going to keep a 6 watt light running for very long. Carry spares. I appreciate the fact that the manufacturer designed the light to use cheap alkalines or rechargeables rather than expensive lithiums, otherwise it would quickly become too expensive to operate for your average non-rich person like me. Bottom line: It's a Dorcy -- a perrenial bargain basement incandescent flashlight manufacturer that has wisely decided to take advantage of the l.e.d. phenomenon to try and improve their image and compete with the big boys. They've obviously got a ways to go, but I give them a "B" for effort and an "A" for being opportunistic. If Dorcy plays their cards right, they could very well go from wannabe status to gottahave status in relatively short order.

Bright and Cheap,

This review is from: Dorcy 41-4297 160 Lumen LED Aluminum Flashlight with Batteries and Built-In Battery Indicator (Tools & Home Improvement)
This flashlight has unbelievable brightness for its size. Plus it uses cheap AAA batteries. That said, it will not last very long. The plastic internal battery holder is thin and cheap. It breaks easily into many parts and thus the flashlight becomes useless. Many who are having troubles with the switch are actually having trouble with the cheap plastic battery holder inside which has failed. BEWARE.
