Dore is the man,

I have loved Dore and his work most of my life without realizing it, and so have you, due to its ubiquity. You are all probably familiar with his biblical or Inferno illustrations, but he did real life as well. This is probably he closest we will ever get photos from that time period. He preferred regular people going about their regular lives, and this makes his work so interesting. I lived in Spain for four years and it struck me by how much it has and hasn't changed over 100 years. Spain proudly holds onto it's past, as evidenced by these drawings. For anyone who loves the country as I do, this is a fascinating peek into another world long ago, yet still exists today, as well.
