3.0 out of 5 stars Confused collection of passable photography
Kloster offers a confusing array of atmospheres - grainy shots of lifestylers, Maybelline models wearing vinyl teddies and comically unconvincing sneers, one saddening shot of a little Russian prostitute posing leadenly in fetish heels, amateurish (and not charming) shots of preened and posturing club celebs. To call this "a visual exploration of fetish" is misleading...

I have now collected a number of the fetish photography books available. This book is of particular interest because of it's photo-journalistic feel. The images are beautiful and the image reproduction is of the high standard that I have come to expect of the Carlton publications.

Kloster has captured a rich selection of photos that the reader gets glimpses of people's lives rather than looking at models who have been dressed up in the right gear (as I have often noticed in other works). The locations are excellent and I love that she has not relied upon studios. I enjoyed the fact that you get a sense of the of contrast between the location and the subjects, particularly in the urban/industrial environments.

I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in fetish photography, the fashion or the lifestyle. This is a beautiful book that I am proud to own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Art Book!, March 14, 2007

This book is truly a work of art. The quality of the pics of this book is wonderful. Several images just need a frame to decorate your wall. We have spent hours pouring over the detail in this book. It makes a wonderful gift or addition to a collection. Highly recommended.
This is a coffee Table book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Juicy Monograph, June 30, 2008

If fetish is a style, a look, an image, this book is its bible. It's sexy, juicy, brilliantly staged and photographed. I cannot avoid the feeling that there is substance beneath the style, and this book sometimes gives a hint of what may be hidden in it. Anyway, it's captivating, luscious, and mesmerizingly intense. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

For a 7.99 price brand new it is certainly worth it. The pics are great but sometimes the settings are not. Great NY scenery, lotsa drag but generally good work. Its art and eroticism. Not the most awesome collection of work but very well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Latex Fantasies/City Whips, May 25, 2006
"A visual exploration of fetish" describes it quite well. Rubber dresses, cross dressers, homosexuals in drag, Catholic school girls, whips, spanking. You couldn't ask for much more.

This book is charged erotica in picture form. It's an explosion of colors and attitude in a way that will make even the most ardently celibate want to dabble.

The only problem? There isn't nearly enough pictures. This book should've been about 300 pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars one of the more talanted women in fetish photography, May 22, 2003
This review is from: Doris Kloster's Demimonde: A Visual Exploration of Fetish (Paperback)
doris kloster's work are very sexsual, it seem almost a silly thing to say about an erotic photography book, but if you have seen one or tow books that deals with erotic issues, you probebly know that a lot of the times there's a clinical remote feel of unnatural situation that seemed to be more of a show or a posed scene rather then anything that has anything to to with actual people and events.

the people in this book seem into it, they are real people and it emidiatly shows, wether she's dealing with cross dressing, dominence, submissiveness, outdoor scenes or mumifacation, they apear to be enjoying themself and taking a lively actual part in her vision.

i found this book pretty sexy and interesting, the photos are in very good color and quality of printing is very good compare to other books i have. it's a good intrudaction to kloster's work and have planty of very good shots in it.

To call this "a visual exploration of fetish" is misleading. This is a jumbled mess of people wearing unusual clothing.

Well, besides the fact that my ex-girlfriend has been on the cover and inside of all three of Doris's book, it's an evocative book that makes you wonder about the photo subject's everyday lives.
