If you have never ventured near the Latino foods section of your local Walmart, Doritos Dinamita Nacho Picoso may be the gateway snack that will lead you to a new land of flavor discovery. If you are a fan of Doritos and don't mind some spice and heat, you cannot go wrong with a handful of these. The first thing you will notice about the flavor is how similar to standard nacho cheese flavor Doritos they are. But then, once the initial nacho cheese burst and saltiness starts to substide, there is a heat, almost habanero-like that starts to spark through. Because the Doritos are coated and rolled up, you almost get a double dose of the coating, basically on the same level as the Doritos "jacked" line of tortilla chips. I absolutely love them. The corn chip itself is also pretty good although I do wish they were just a bit larger.

It should also be mentioned at this time that this chip is Frito Lay's attempt to go after other Latino market dominated brands such as Takis, which I also absolutely love. I must say that as I've gotten older, I've found myself with a Sriracha hot sauce addiction that I can't kick, that combined with living in a community that is 70% Latino, really has moved me into discovering not just the heat contained in these foods, but also the unique flavor that the various chiles have to offer. Sorry if I'm getting a bit philosophical here but I do like how Doritos has strayed a bit from their usual run of the mill coated corn chips into a taste and texture that is on par with snack foods that have been available to a completely different demographic palate for quite some time.

While I have tried to focus on the Nacho Picoso variety here, I do highly recommend trying out the habanero chile lime variation of the Dinamita.

I walked by these in a local store and something about them was undeniably awesome, forcing me to make a purchase. The bag is a bit small, but they are also relatively dense. On first bite, I was surprised by the intensity of the spices. By curling the chips into this tubular shape, the spice gets layered in, creating an intense flavor. I like strong flavors, so it was all good. However, they are so crunchy that part of my mouth rubbed off, similar to my childhood Cap'N Crunch injuries.

Overall, a fun new snack food for those who enjoy more spice than traditional North American treats, but like the familiar Doritos flavor.

Woefully overpriced . . . I first found these in a bunch of ethnic markets in Providence, RI, and loved them instantly! My kids, too. However, stock can be erratic and I don't intend to spend half a day driving around the potholed boulevards of Providence (yeah, I mean YOU, Hartford Ave.!) looking for these things. So I came here to good ol' Amazon hoping to find a bargain. MORE THAN 5 BUCKS FOR =ONE BAG= ?!? The most I ever paid was maybe a dollar and a half. Well, at that price you don;t have to sell a lot, I guess. And I know I've seen far more ridiculous prices for things around here. So good luck, baby, but you're not getting a nickel out of me, and I feel sorry for anybody so desperate for a bag of these they actually spend this much.

One star -- and ONLY because a star rating must be given.
