I was an art major in college, and sewing is not exactly my medium of choice, but the projects in this book were not difficult for me to grasp. There are smaller projects that do not require much experience or time (I did projects by hand), and then larger projects that will take a bit longer, but are so adorable that you can't help but try them out! Not only will you want to make the projects for yourself, but as gifts as well. Don't be thrown off by the title either-this is a great buy for craft lovers of all ages!

I am a parent of a soon-to-be college student and a crafter and I love this book! The projects are creative and different and the author uses beautiful fabrics and colors that make me want to get busy crafting. I plan to make the pet pillow as soon as I get time. There are some wacky projects like the felt pelt "bear rug" and the foam core deer head. And there are some projects that are just as suitable for adults as for teens. I particularly liked the styling of the reversible duvet cover and the monogrammed pillows.

The reviewer who gave this 2 stars and recommended a book about living in dorms seems to have misunderstood what this book is about. It is a craft book with dorm-oriented projects, but it is not meant to be a book about the practicalities of living in a dorm room.

For me this was a very inspiring craft book. Even if you don't have a dorm-aged child and are not a college student, you will still find some great projects in this book.

I found the projects to be impractical and unattractive. Most of the items could be purchased for less money and effort than it would take to make them. I recommend "Knack Dorm Living: Get the Room--and the Experience--You Want at College (Knack: Make It easy)" instead.

Gonzales' book is full of inspiring ideas that will have you looking at your dwelling in a new light. The projects are not intimidating, and the pay-off is huge. I learned a lot about textiles, and what's available really blew my mind. She proves that it doesn't have to be expensive or horribly time consuming to turn your pad into a warm and snuggly home. The projects are a great way to bond with your college-bound kid. Now if she would only do one for project for your pets, I would be head over tails for it.

My daughter received Dorm Decor going into her Senior in College. I wish she would have gotten it when she was a freshman! She made several of the crafts over the summer and is using them today after she graduated. I will be using this book as a gift idea for all our High School Seniors entering College.

The other reviews that say this was not as expected were spot-on. I returned this book and got a refund.
I simply wasn't a fan of the book because the projects required a ton of effort and specialized tools and materials - definitely not a DIY "Dorm" type of project book. Really though, who can fit a sewing machine and a ton of other craft supplies in their tiny cinderblock double room? The VAST majority of these projects required a sewing machine and a ton of time and skill. It would be easier and cheaper, honestly, to just buy the things created in these "dorm" projects.

Most of the projects require a lot more than the typical college kid has (sewing machine?) or can afford (tons of fabric!). Plus, having been in college quite a while now I can honestly say that most of the projects aren't even that practical. Take the bean bag on the cover, my roommate would be furious if I brought that giant thing into our tiny shared space.
It's not worth the money, though many DIY-books are, in this case you're better off checking Pinterest.

There are several very fun projects included in this book. However, the projects definitely take more than a FEW hours to complete! While skill level was included, hours to complete would have also been helpful...but I'm afraid it would have discouraged many people from purchasing this book. I also completed one of the no sew options, Oh Dear, Deer Head, and have several hours invested. A cute idea, but I'm not sure the project was really worth the time and effort.
