Book Description

March 25, 2009
Gone are the days of packing a single duffel for fall. Now college students and their families spend thousands on decorations and furniture to deck out their living space. Dorm Decor shows these budding designers how customizing store-bought items can transform a drab dorm room into a plush home away from home. Stylish lampshades, oversize floor pillows, cool bedding, curtains, message boards, and more add style, organization, and comfort to otherwise cramped quarters. Tons of color photos, straightforward instructions, pattern pieces, and small-space floor plans make an eye-catching face-lift simple to pull off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and trendy for any crafty gal! January 15, 2010
Format:Spiral-bound
I was an art major in college, and sewing is not exactly my medium of choice, but the projects in this book were not difficult for me to grasp. There are smaller projects that do not require much experience or time (I did projects by hand), and then larger projects that will take a bit longer, but are so adorable that you can't help but try them out! Not only will you want to make the projects for yourself, but as gifts as well. Don't be thrown off by the title either-this is a great buy for craft lovers of all ages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book June 11, 2011
By h in tn
Format:Spiral-bound
I am a parent of a soon-to-be college student and a crafter and I love this book! The projects are creative and different and the author uses beautiful fabrics and colors that make me want to get busy crafting. I plan to make the pet pillow as soon as I get time. There are some wacky projects like the felt pelt "bear rug" and the foam core deer head. And there are some projects that are just as suitable for adults as for teens. I particularly liked the styling of the reversible duvet cover and the monogrammed pillows.

The reviewer who gave this 2 stars and recommended a book about living in dorms seems to have misunderstood what this book is about. It is a craft book with dorm-oriented projects, but it is not meant to be a book about the practicalities of living in a dorm room.

For me this was a very inspiring craft book. Even if you don't have a dorm-aged child and are not a college student, you will still find some great projects in this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected December 7, 2010
Format:Spiral-bound
I found the projects to be impractical and unattractive. Most of the items could be purchased for less money and effort than it would take to make them. I recommend "Knack Dorm Living: Get the Room--and the Experience--You Want at College (Knack: Make It easy)" instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars A basic craft book
The crafts in the book are basic, and nothing super special. They are good to inspire other craft ideas. Also great craft ideas for small spaces (like a dorm, obviously).

2.0 out of 5 stars Way too complicated...
I don't recommend this book - the projects are complicated, and not easy to do without much space and/or specialty tools. Definitely not for the DIY roommates to do on a weekend.
