This tool works just as advertised. The boot however is not easy to work with. I have done tons of boots the old fashioned way, taking the axle out and the joints apart. It is easier to get the boot on but the clamps they give you are junk and the boot is so soft it is hard to work with. I rec. this tool but get yourself some better clamps or you will fight with the ones that come with it, like I did. With the right clamps this tool really cuts the work time. Note:This review is from Holly's husband, not Holly. I have been a mechanic for 15 years, I know a my tools.

I had grease leaking from one of the outer cv boots on my Mazda. The axle was previously replaced around 4 years ago, and was still under warranty. I figured that I would just get the new axle under warranty, and swap it out. Wrong. After spending 1 1/2 days pounding on the old one to remove it, with no success, I finally gave in, and took it to the shop. Got a call later that day, that they couldn't remove it either. Every person in the shop tried all of their normal tricks to remove it, but finally gave up and told me to come get my car. I wasn't sure what to do. The axle was fine, other than the leaky boot, and it hadn't been leaking long enough to get any dirt inside it.I came across this tool searching the internet for a solution. I had no idea that you could remove & replace a cv boot, without taking the axle out first. (you can find videos online showing how it works) Amazon had the best price by far, and two days later, it arrived. You have to use only the Dorman stretch type boots with it, but they are no more $$$ than other brands, and my local auto parts store had one in stock for my vehicle. After cutting off my old boot, and cleaning off the old grease, I installed the new boot with this tool in about 10 minutes - including the 2 metal straps. All totaled, it was about a 30 minute repair. The instructions were fairly complete, and clearly state that the operating pressure should be 58 - 101 psi, which you control with your air compressor regulator, not this tool. I used 60 psi, and it worked great. Just be sure to use the recommended boots with it. Standard boots will almost certainly tear, and/or damage the tool jaws. (Remember to look for the online videos, to see how to use it) One additional suggestion would be to buy or borrow a banding tool for the straps. I used pliers & a screwdriver, but it was a pain to get them tight enough. After I was done, I bought an OTC 4623 CV Joint Banding Tool And Cutter for around $14, so next time, it will be even faster to change the boot. If your axle has been leaking for a while, and has dirt inside the boot, it may have ruined the joint inside, and just changing the boot is not going to fix that. You need to change the axle. But for simple boot changes, you can't beat this tool. I got a smokin deal on this, for just over one hundred bucks, so it can pay for itself after one or two boot changes, vs. buying the whole axle.

When using this tool you must use a light touch on the button or you will rip the boot. No way to control the air pressure.
