I have a new Mazda CX-5 with a front license plate that hangs below the bumper in front of the air intake void. This car doesn't have an OEM front licence bracket as far as I know. In previous cars I have noticed that the front license plate can eventually bend in after years of highway-speed winds and automatic car wash sprayers hitting the license plate. I wanted to find a plate bracket/holder that would provide some support behind the plate. After hunting through all the plate bracket options online I finally settled on the Dorman Help! 68148. I picked this one mostly because it's metal and low profile (not cheesy). I was a little worried about the size since the specifications listed here say 15 x 8 or so. But turns out the size is perfect for a standard 12" x 6" plate. I measured the bracket to be exactly 12.5" wide by 6.125" high. So there's just enough tolerance for a license plate that is exactly 12x6. The edges wrap inward on three sides to "hold" the plate in place. There are lots of holes for mounting in a variety of situations, but I just used the two top standard holes.

I can see how you can't easily add a second plate frame over top of this bracket since those are designed to sit flush on top of the plate. But with this bracket, the wrapped edges stand off the surface of the plate by 1/4" or so.

It's true the frame comes with no instructions or hardware, so you may need to get screws separately.

I may have to revise this review next winter when the salt, ice and snow cake on there. I'm hoping the metal composition is sturdy enough for it. We'll see.

The product itself is of great quality. It has worked for me, but with a lot of work.
I'm using this for a classic that has three holes in the front bumper, two at the bottom, and one centered on the top.
Unfortunately, this bracket has a lot of holes, but none that will work in this configuration.
The only holes set at the standard distance for a license plate are the ones that are supposed to hold the license plate itself. I had to make two holes myself directly above these. Also, the only hole centered on the bracket is at the bottom, not the top, so I also had to make that hole myself. Now, remember I mentioned that it is of great quality; this means that I had to use a special metal bit, and lubrication, to make the holes on the bracket.
Now for the other problem. If you're planning on using this bracket by itself, everything will be fine. However, if you're planning on using the bracket and covering it with a license plate frame (which I wanted to do) you'll find that the bracket is too wide (wider than a stardard license plate and than a license plate frame). In order to use it as I intended, I had to use a dremmel tool with cutting discs and cut the side flaps of the bracket.
Since I already had all the tools I needed, I didn't have much of a problem using this bracket. Also, if none of the cons are an issue for you, go for it and purchase it; otherwise, I would recommend you find a different bracket.

I got this to mount a front license plate of my BMW which didnt have a front lic. plate mount. This quality is very solid and this a rather heavy gauge metal license plate. I hope it holds up well to the elements.

This bracket is very nicely constructed. It is all metal and has many holes for mounting and attaching to your vehicle. It will protect the license plate very well, keeping it from bending and generally getting messed up. This does raise some concern about if the bottom edge of the plate got caught on something, would it just tear out of the bumper?

I think this is a much better purchase than cheap plastic brackets as this is something that will last a long time, and looks very nice.

I purchased this bracket because my new car didn't come with one. In my state you must have a front license plate. This bracket has many different holes to fit a variety of mounting options. No hardware comes with the bracket. I simply put my license plate into the bracket frame and then screwed the top 2 holes into my front bumper. Works great! MUCH more affordable then then $80 the dealer was trying to charge me for a Subaru front mounting bracket! Very satisfied!

I don't know how well this works because it doesn't fit my vehicle. Measurements would have been very helpful, but let me just warn Odyssey owners that this isn't for them. Also, it doesn't come with screws so be sure to purchase those separately.

Have two cars, a new Impala and a 2000 Taurus, didn't occur to me how cheesy the front tag mount was on the Taurus until I found it done right on the new car. With this heavy metal plate backing up tag on the old Ford don't figure to be spending anymore time straightening the front tag when an inattentive driver backs into it while parallel parking.

Was worried with just the one review but this plate is SOLID! MANY mounting options with the tons of holes. Nice lip ads to the rigidity and prevents flex. Wanted to mount my plate below my bumper cover to the frame on my Tacoma with some aluminum braces I machined up. This fit the bill. Very happy with it. Hope it lasts with road salt and all.
