These heater adapters are a necessary evil when working on 90's Chevrolet heater hoses. If your lucky, your old one came out without breaking off in the intake or water pump. If it breaks off in the water pump, you either get to buy a new pump and adapter, or get the special removal tool and hope for the best. If it breaks off in your intake, you are at the mercy of the removal tool. They sell adapters to get rid of this item and they use a regular hose barb, so you just convert to rubber hoses and get rid of the metal piece. However on my rear heat equipped Suburban, I dont feel like messing up the factory lines, so I am using one of these with a new water pump. If you do convert away from one of these, make sure your adapter has the same restriction orifice as this piece, they regulate flow through the heater cores.

Take a minute to examine one of these and once you realize how the clips come out, they are simple to extract, and new ones really do go together with a snap.

Bought this as it is the factory replacement piece. Cheap plastic clip broke immediately upon installation. Don't waste your time with this cheap crap. Buy the brass barbed fitting with the same thread pitch, cut the metal end off that hose, push the hose onto the barbed fitting and you are good to go. No more worries about being stranded by a .02 piece of plastic. What a bad design by GM. Of course this is from the same people that thought it would be a good idea to put a plastic gasket between an aluminum intake manifold and a cast iron block.... If your GM 350 (5.7L) is losing coolant for no apparent reason, you can bet the lower intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant into your engine. Fel-Pro makes an updated gasket set that cures this. Good Luck.

Better than the original! It is better due to the fact that it is made out of steel and not pot metal.

Bought this for a 1996 GMC Sonoma with 2.2 liter engine. Part of clip broke while pushing the pipe into the connector. Not really worried about the pipe coming out because the 2.2 heater pipe clamps to the engine intake on the side. Pulled on pipe to check that it would not pull free. Didn't leak during a pressure test. But it still worries me that the pipe could somehow come out, so I will end up pulling the tube back apart and installing a new clip and hope it doesn't break again.
