5.0 out of 5 stars The Queen of Metal
This CD like all Doro and Warlock is just absolutely ass-kickin' metal. That's the way it is, this is not for the weak, or for the timid. And if you want more, then check out something a little different from Doro, Love Me In Black, which is her latest release. Once you listen to Doro, you will never be the same, and you will never get enough......

3.0 out of 5 stars Doro - self-titled (Polygram) 3 1/2 stars
Originally released in 1990,'Doro' was Doro Pesch's second solo effort.Doro's solo work isn't as good as her former band she once fronted,Warlock(see my review of their 'True As Steel' CD)but she does give us fans her 'all' she has to give.Key tracks on this disc are "Rock You",her cover of the Electric Prune's "I Had Too Much To Drink"(decently done),"Something Wicked"...

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard rocking Euro-metal, October 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Doro (Audio CD)
If you were a fan of the 80's band "Warlock" then you'll naturally be a fan of Doro. Why? Because Doro Pesch fronted that band before going the solo route. The same headbanging Warlock style is here along with a few of Doro's signature ballads. Her version of the Electric Prunes "I Had To Much To Dream Last Night" is my highlight. As is her version of the old Kiss song, "Only You". No surprise there, as this recording was produced by none other than Kiss bassist, Gene Simmons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doro's last American attempt, March 25, 2004
This review is from: Doro (Audio CD)
After disbanding Warlock, Doro went on to release two solo albums available in the states. At the time I bought this album (on cassette) it was all I listened to for weeks. This is a great album from start to finish. 'Rock On', 'I Had Too Much to Dream', and 'Something Wicked this way Comes' all should have been singles on the radio. But this album didn't make any waves so back to Germany Miss Doro went where she is popular, adored, and successful. Just like Motorhead and Iron Maiden, Doro is a European treasure that was never really understood or embraced here in the states.

So why then can't a talanted and sexy singer in a metal outfit make it in the states? I think it's because for the most part Americans are wimps. They'll listen to bubblegum crap like Britney Spears and other no talant hacks, but when it comes to real singing and real beauty, America folds. So if you want a singer with a voice as strong as Pat Benatar and music as hard as rock, then you need to introduce yourself to the world of Doro.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock on, Doro Pesch!, July 8, 2005
This review is from: Doro (Audio CD)
Doro's second solo album was her most successful solo album...the songs are like Warlock's slowers...and hard rock songs. The opener "Unholy Love", "Ride"Warlock", "Rare Diamond", , "Only You", "I'll Be Holding on", and "Broken" are ballads or power ballads they probably would say, There's also heavy hard rock songs "I Had Too Much to Dream, "Rock on", "Something Wicked This Way Comes", "Alive", and "Mirage", Doro is one of the best female hard rock vocalists ever. Doro's songs has an important message althogh it may sound quite creepy sometimes (Something wicked going on...."Something Wicked This Way Comes..."). I don't like NIN and I don't like this song too.
Stars: Rare Diamond, I'll Be Holding on, I Had Too Much to Dream

4.0 out of 5 stars Ladies and Gentlemen Prefer Doro, September 26, 2011
This review is from: Doro (Audio CD)
One day, back in 1987, I took a break from watching Gentlemen Prefer Ginger to catch a few heavy metal video's on headbangers ball. I had to take a break, my 4-headed $600 Toshiba VCR with digital slo-mo and pause effects was precious and I wanted it to last forever. Enter Warlock. Typical cheesy early 80's special effects, predictable riffs and cliched choruses be forgiven, I was mesmerized. Here's a rocking band with a very cute young girl singer posing and strutting, who basically sings in german with an american accent...Fighting for Rock. The band was your usual skinny long-haired dudes with very pointy guitars and big noses.(All my friends looked like this in 1987 by the way, but I, I had a job!) I loved Metal.

Somewhere about '99 I see that Gene Simmons produced an album for Doro somewhere around 1990, now a solo act. I heard "Unholy Love" and immediately bought this. There's only one great song on the album but the sound quality is way better than earlier Warlock 0's and 1's and Doro still sounds hot even if her English is getting too good! I'll admit I bought it used from the cut-out bin but it was worth every penny, all 99 of them, just for that one song. There are a few others that are listenable but the songwriting could have been a little more creative. Sometimes I think I Gene came up with the material... too cliched. Militant Doro/Warlock fans will buy the album for the discovery therein, others need only buy the Unholy Love download, if available.

I got to meet her at a Dio show at Roseland Ballroom (NYC) around 2000. The whole band sounded great. (I read that one of her guitarists is Joe Taylor, a local Plainfield, NJ native. Not sure if he played that night.) I was very impressed with the energy and musicianship. When the lights came back on after DIO's set she came out on the side stage to bump fists with the fans and sign stuff. She signed my ticket, said a few sweet nothings and moved on to the next 35+ year old half bald guy in a Brooks Brothers button-down and Polo Khaki's. I was amazed that she came out at all but was even more amazed at how she seemed to genuinely enjoy the whole meet-the-fans experience. And, being a visually stimulated person, I thought she looked better than ever in person, though I suspect there had been some facial/dental work done at some time. It doesn't last forever you know.

2002, Bought Love Me In Black. Interesting, sexy, though it's not metal.
2010, Bought Warrior Soul. Solid, sophisticated rock. Good songwriting. Better than this album. While it may not quite have the energy of the 80's, the songs feel great.

I have looked for several years in to replacing my Doro tape onto CD. Not only did I find it here at a great price (compaired to my local record shop and paying way too much!) I received it with in three days of ordering it! I have been blasting my poor little car to the hilt with it!!

I have to say thanks for such promptness and I plan on ordering more from here in the future!!!

Aces in my book!
