Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this Women of Our Time biography, the author follows Lange from her birth in 1895 to her death in 1965. "Meltzer writes as accessibly to younger children as he does to advanced readers of his distinguished nonfiction. The story is outstanding," PW noted.

Review

'Lange's work defines an era of destitution and drought, and still resonates even now. This is the perfect introduction to one of the world's greatest photojournalists. Practical Photography 'Lange was the first woman to be awarded the Guggenheim Photography Fellowship and this book showcases her most famous work, an arresting 55-picture, chronologically ordered documentation of the lives of migrant workers during the Great Depression.' The Independent

I saw this book at the library and loved it. Was so glad that Amazon had it. I like the summary of her life and approach to photography (written by Christopher Cox) as much as I like her pictures. Both are inspiring.

This book offers a good short biography of Dorothea Lange, geared to a young person - 3rd or 4th grade - but I expected to see more of Lange's photographs. Only 7 of her photos were included.

I like the work of Dorothea Lange but I was expecting better quality of the pictures.
It's a good purchase if you find a used copy in nice conditions.
