This review is from: Dorothy and Lillian Gish (Hardcover)
I really must say that this book is truly beautiful. It captures two lovely women in their heydey. Miss Lillian brought her and her recently departed sister (1968, book published in 1973) to life in what I would label as a veritable encyclopedia of the early days of film. Of course, some of the text is mimimal, and some facts are jumbled (Miss Gish had a knack for doing that!), but the photographs alone are reward enough. I would recommend this book to any silent film buff.....It is just simply......Beautiful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Pictorial Biography on Two Legendary Silent Stars, February 10, 2009
This review is from: Dorothy and Lillian Gish (Hardcover)
DOROTHY AND LILLIAN GISH is a beautiful large "coffeetable" pictorial book compiled by the great Lillian Gish on the careers of herself and her also quite talented sister, Dorothy. A whopping collection of some 800 (!!) photos are collected in this 312-page book, many referenced or captioned with recollections by Miss Lillian. This book covers their childhood, their legendary careers in silent films and their very successful if less remembered careers returning to the stage in the 1930's into the 1960's (and for Lillian, into the 1970's), along with television performances and personal photographs. Lillian gives her sister's career equal importance; indeed, I suspect paying tribute to her late younger sister was her main reason for publishing this very endearing and fascinating book. I cannot imagine any silent movie fan not loving this book.
