An Interesting Manga,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dorothy Of Oz Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
I found this to be amongst the most interesting remakes today. Instead of going right to where Mara Shin, a very normal Korean girl from Seoul, finds the yellow brick road, the story takes off from when they find Brick Village. Hungry and tired they leap upon a girl who happens to have food. From the girl and her brother, they find out that the village is under attack by monsters (and accuse one of Mara's friends, Tail, of being a monster) and that their local garrison disappears whenever the monsters appear, leaving the townsfolk defenseless. I will stop there so as not to not spoil the ending for you curious readers out there.
Together with Namu (codename: Tin Woodsman), Tail (codename: Cowardly Lion), and Abee (codename: Scarecrow) Mara (codename: Dorothy) travel along the many roads of Oz, trying to find their way to only Mara knows where. All in all, a great read with fantastic art throughout the book. If you can't find it at a local bookstore or comic book shop within 15 miles of your home, I suggest ordering it off Amazon.

Oz from Korea,
By
This review is from: Dorothy Of Oz Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This manhwa(Korean comic)is a modern day retelling of the original Oz books. The story first opens up with the entire cast already assembled and on their quest to the mysterious Wizard while dodging the Oz military as they're seen as fugitives. Although after the first few chapters in Volume #1, the plot then cuts to the beginning where we meet Mara Shin, a normal girl from Korea who on her way home from school one day follows her dog Toto down a mysterious road that she never noticed before. She wanders into the enchanted land of Oz, and encounters Serruliah, a scientist referred to as the Witch of the East that believes Mara is the legendary saviour known as Dorothy who can find the fabled Yellow Brick Road. Oz is broken up into four countries, each one ruled by a female scientist called a "witch" who at one point tried to conquer the land, but the mighty Wizard who had actual magical powers defeated them. Serruliah discovers that a strange glove that Mara found when she was a kid(supposedly in Oz)has actual magic properties. Unfortunately, Serruliah is killed by a clone assassin of the Witch of the West, but not before she reveals to Mara how to utilize the special powers lying within her magic boots which allow her to transform into a blonde mature version of herself. Mara is however mistaken for the assassin, and goes on the run. She later frees one of the West Witch's failed clones that she names Abee(which is Korean for Scarecrow), and he uses his psychic powers to protect her from other clone soldiers. The two of them later on run across the cyborg Namu, who has the codename of Tin Woodsman. He teams up with them, and fights the powerful female android Tick Tock who works for the Witch of the South. Our heroes eventually befriend the chimera catboy Tail created by the North Witch. If you're a fan of anime and manga, you'll probably enjoy this as a great adventure/fantasy with some decent comedy. The story offers a fresh take on the Oz novels, but holds its own as an interesting comic.

Dorothy isn't in Korea any more!,

This review is from: Dorothy Of Oz Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This is a great adaptation (Or sequel?) to "The Wizard of OZ." I find that the Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow are not the characters we know, but original characters who share some common attributes with the ones we knew. The same is true for Dorothy, Or rather Mara Shin. She follows the Yellow Brick Road to it's end, where her dreams will come true, whatever they are. At least that what people say. Standing in her way are powerful forces tangled in a power struggle for the control or even the destruction of Oz.

Dorothy Of Oz Volume 1 (Dorothy of Oz)
Firstly for you anime and manga lovers: I am right with you totally. I am also an hobby artist. So I also love great talent in manga drawing. This series is both great art and a great story. I have a day job at a major library processing books. I saw this eye-catcher on a cart so I ordered all the available and pre-order books.[do this if you want to get ahead of the crowd]. This is simply huge fun to read and re-read. I would love to see it animated. Every element of the book is super professional...a collection keeper for manga fans.

This series is great. It takes the story of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz",and puts it in a sci-fi adventure context. Has comedic elements and physical humor. More geared towards teens and young adults. If you like quirky, adventurous, serious at times stories in graphic books, this series is a must-read.
