Dorothy Parker was known for her keen wit, cutting observation and sharply honest portrayal of human nature. This review is from: Dorothy Parker Stories (Hardcover)
I love Dorothy Parker's skewed vierpoint about life and the many characters who inhabit it. She can conjure up an accurate picture of those people we meet throughout life who either annoy the heck out of us or make us weep for sadness. Here is a good collection of the stories that will somehow stick with you, if you're an observer of people and all the situations that confront us in society.

3.0 out of 5 stars Trivial and petty humanity, June 12, 2010
This review is from: Dorothy Parker Stories (Hardcover)
The Dorothy Parker story is one in which the characters are shown to be petty, small, and selfish. It is one in which we see into the trivial character of the characters. It does not have warmth or love of life in it. There is much focus on small social mannerisms. One understands that there is an effort at irony and humor. But this does not work for me , and in my reading the overall effect is not the sadness which deepens one's appreciation of humanity but rather the sadness of emptiness.
These stories are very much of the time and place they were written, and certainly not for all time and for enduring remembrance and rereading.
