4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book --- for someone with 20+ yrs mainframe exp, November 25, 2009

This review is from: Dos/VSE Iccf (Paperback)
Well Well Well.. . will wonders never cease. I am surprised that I found this book... sure proves that DOS/VSE is alive and well in 2009. Who woulda thought? For those who have no idea what DOS/VSE or MVS is, (or any knowledge of mainframe tools)...DOS/VSE is a 35+ old operating system on the mainframe (i.e. large scale computer system where 100+ users can log into and do work). MVS is a newer (but still old) operating system that is used on most large installations (in NJ and NY). As a cobol/cics programmer (old languages), I am bewildered that I still have a use for this book. Sorry if I sound cynical or sarcastic about this, but I am surprised that after all my yrs of exp in this field, I thought I would be doing something else right now for a living. If you need a refresher in ICCF or any editor in DOS, this book is a great start. Not many other books out there can compare to this. By the way, if you are a cobol mainframe person, the next time you get laid off or let go from a company, go for training in Java, C++, .NET or other distributed skill.... because having BOTH the mainframe experience and working knowledge of web dev programming will DEFINITELY make you more marketable. Trust me on that!
If you have questions or comments on my little diatribe, reply with a comment or shoot me an email at cosmo619@gmail.com --- lets knock it around.
If this takes off, I may get a blog going!
Peace,
TJM
