Buyer beware: if you're buying this book new at top dollar so you won't have to pay a separate $65 fee for the CENTRO system -- and chances are good that you are, since CENTRO allows a would-be language teacher to "call in" their class with no effort or grading at all -- prepare to be disappointed. For some reason, this brand-new book at $120 from Amazon comes keyless, even though the exact same book at your college bookstore contains one. So, there's absolutely no reason to buy one here, unless you get it used at a great price. Very, very disappointing, and just another example of college textbook publishers and book sellers ripping the public off, but at least you can learn from my mistake.

Amazon, stop combining reviews of different editions,
By
This review is from: Dos mundos: Comunicacion y comunidad (Hardcover)
the reviews listed under the 7th edition date all the way back to 1999, and maybe earlier? um, Amazon, this is not right. Each edition improves and it's hard for your customers to distinguish the reviews that should only be listed with previous editions. To other customers: be careful that you are only reading reviews for the edition that you are looking for.

Dos Mundos,

This review is from: Dos mundos: Comunicacion y comunidad (Hardcover)
Tracy Terrell was my advisor at the UCSD. That was when I got exposed to his book and his methodology (the Natural Approach). The book is geared around topics which makes it much more interesting and entertaining for all people involved to either learn or teach. It stresses communication and in a very interesting way. It's a very demanding methodology. You have to learn a lot of vocabulary (without words you cannot communicate). Grammar has its place, but it's not like in other methodologies where grammar is the central part.
It's fun to teach. The students enjoy it. It's the best way to learn Spanish or any other language. And the students end up being very fluent. :)

Great Book!,

This review is from: DOS Mundos (Paperback)
Please Note - I am reviewing the Seventh Edition, printed in 2010. Pay no attention to reviews of earlier editions that were written before 2010. I love this book! Any problems with earlier editions have been fixed. This book, along with my excellent professor, will make my long-standing desire to learn Spanish a reality. The Seventh Edition contains Actividades de communicacion, Vocabulario, Grammatica y Ejercicios. This one book will carry you through several levels of Spanish instruction. Highly recommended. Five Stars

Good to use in class,
This review is from: Dos mundos: Comunicacion y comunidad (Hardcover)
I bought this book and used it for two semesters of Spanish classes. Although most of my learning was from my teacher, this book still helped greatly. The activities are very engaging and each chapter is set up in good chunks so that you aren't overwhelmed. The only complaint I have is that in the back of the book, there is only a Spanish to English glossary and not English to Spanish and there were many times when I would be stuck and the glossary didn't help me one bit.

Missing Required Item Included with Textbook,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dos mundos: Comunicacion y comunidad (Hardcover)
I ordered this brand new, latest addition textbook directly from Amazon (no reseller). The Dos mundos textbook arrived but was missing Quia(tm) (McGraw-Hill single log-in authentication for students). Since the Quia log-in authentication info is missing and it is required in order to access on-line information, the textbook is worthless for my class. I have sent 2 emails to Amazon with no response. This is very poor customer service!

BUY THIS STONY BROOK!,
By SandboxNinja "Nin" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dos mundos: Comunicacion y comunidad (Hardcover)
4 Stars because the exercises are decent, the end of chapter vocabulary is well organized, and the verbs charts are convenient, but the online portion is a little disorganized. There's no easy way to show what exactly the teacher has assigned when going through the chapters, unlike many other online systems where you ONLY see what problems the professor has assigned. The "Customized For Stony Brook" edition is one of the greatest ripoffs ever, which is difficult given the SBU Bookstore's record. I asked my first SPN111 Professor and the TA if I could purchase the non-SBU version because it was $60 cheaper than the ripoff that is the SUNY Stony Brook Bookstore. My professor had no idea and said I should purchase from SBU. The package is nearly $100 cheaper. As far as I can tell all they did was rearrange some pages to align better with the basic courses SPN111 and SPN112 at SUNY Stony Brook. The thing is, they DID NOT REPRINT the pages they moved in where they belong. So roundabout Chapter 6, the page numbers go something like 240, 265, 266, 267, 2 blank pages, 1 unnumbered page, then 241. When you GET to Chapter 7, the pages go 264, 268. You have to remember WHERE they hid the rest of your chapter review to get to it. Also, because one of the end-pages are half a page unlike the normal versions, you have to flip between these discombobulated chapters to complete the content.

This book has been excellent. Breaks down vocabulary into several sections for better understanding. 4 stars only because of slight water damage on the pages, but that was expected.
