Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a head-banging subject, which many try to steer clear of, made easy and fun - I wish there had been a book published of this kind when I was undergoing my veterinary nursing training. Every veterinary practice should have this affordable, easy-to-read book in its library, and it is a must for training practices. The foreword hits home the importance of mathematics in the veterinary world.

The 18 chapters are easily readable, with step-by-step instructions, and well-illustrated with relevant photographs and diagrams... Each chapter starts with an introduction, learning objectives and a calcualtion example. Once the reader has grasped the theory, he or she can then practise the calculations. Calculation errors commonly made in practice are highlighted and explained in plain terms, enabling readers to improve their practical skills.

Chapters 8 and 18 are important chapters for student animal nursing assistants (ANAs). Chapter 8 covers calculations for oral medications, which may help with the written exams, while chapter 18 covers mean, median and mode averages, which may assist with the client survey case log." Melissa Mantle VN, Veterinary Nursing, December 2004

I'm halfway through my Vet Tech training and have been struggling with some of the very basic formulas and calculations for a while now. I'm not stupid, but I do struggle with math sometimes. We only go over a little math in every course, but every instructor teaches it a different way (it seems) and no one's taught it in the way that I've understood yet. So I bought this book on my own and started from the basics, worked out the practice problems and it's finally clicking! I recognized the steps from how I was "taught" but it's explained in the way I understand. There are a few more steps on some of them, but by understanding each step now, I can condense the steps on my own and know how/what I'm doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent math review for vet techs!, August 8, 2008

I love this book! It is so good. It clearly explains calculations that vet techs need to know. I am a vet tech studying to take the certification exam. This book helped me quite a lot with some of the math that was not explained as well in other books. I would difinitely recommend this book. It even has a chapter on anaesthesia applications, which was not very well covered in my other texts. Overall, a very helpful book that is well woth what I paid for it.
