Dottie - one of my all-time favorites,
By
This review is from: Dottie West - RCA Country Legends (Audio CD)
I first came across Dottie's music soon after I started collecting music seriously in the late seventies, because of her excellent duets with Kenny Rogers. My immediate thoughts were (and remain) Wow! what a voice. Great though the music from her seven-year stint with United Artists was, it is the music from her fourteen years with RCA that made her one of my all-time favorites. I bought all but one of her LP's in my vinyl days (no easy matter) and I'd love to be able to buy a boxed set, but somehow I doubt such a box will ever be released. This CD is an excellent introduction to Dottie's music. It does not contain all her biggest RCA hits - they can be found on The essential Dottie West - but it does contain the absolute essentials (Here comes my baby, Would you hold it against me, Country girl, Paper mansions and Country sunshine). These five tracks, plus What's come over my baby, There's a story going round (with Don Gibson) and Slowly (with Jimmy Dean) appear on both. Of the eight tracks on this collection but not not the other, four (Let me off at the corner, Careless hands, If it's all right with you and Before the ring on your finger turns green) were hits. The other four, including a stunning cover of Night life, were album tracks, two of which were also B sides. Dottie had a lot of hits with RCA, many of which have yet to appear on CD. Sadly, she didn't have enough really big hits (all those are available on CD). Maybe some of the other minor hits will appear on CD in due course. One of these (I'm only a woman) was covered by Jeannie C Riley and her version can be found on one of her CD's (which I've also reviewed). What it proves is that Dottie's minor hits are every bit as good as some other singer's major hits. There's no justice in this world. Tracks I'd particularly like see on the next Dottie West compilation - I'm only a woman, Just what I've been looking for, Route 65 to Nashville, Carolina cousins, Back home again, This stranger my little girl, As long as I love ..... I could go on, but I'm just dreaming. If enough people buy this and enjoy it, perhaps record companies will be encouraged to release more of Dottie's music on CD.

Vintage Dottie!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dottie West - RCA Country Legends (Audio CD)
This is a very good CD for people who remember the late great Dottie West or those who have never experienced the range of her talent. Previously I had more exposure to her later recordings especially the ones with Kenny Rogers but what a treat this early material is. A must for any fan of country music!
