5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, unknown melodic rock from early '90's
This album is a masterpiece, plain and simple. While grunge was taking over the world, this album was lost in the shuffle. What a shame, as this probably would have been huge if released 5 years earlier (it came out in 1992). With searing rockers like the very minor hit "Hot Cherrie" and "Rhythm In a Red Car" and beautiful ballads like "Can't...

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 great songs, the rest are mediocre
Two songs on this album I would give 5 stars: Rhythm from a Red Car, and Hot Cherie. Both are instant downloads. The rest of the songs on the album range from "average" to "not that great". If every song was as good as "Rhythm.." it would be a 5 star album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, unknown melodic rock from early '90's, October 3, 2001

This album is a masterpiece, plain and simple. While grunge was taking over the world, this album was lost in the shuffle. What a shame, as this probably would have been huge if released 5 years earlier (it came out in 1992). With searing rockers like the very minor hit "Hot Cherrie" and "Rhythm In a Red Car" and beautiful ballads like "Can't Find My Way", this collection is a winner through and through. Many more rockers than ballads, by the way. Neal Schon indeed shreads on this album, as others have indicated. But Johnny Gioeli's vocals are an equally important contribution to this collection--why hasn't he shown up on other great rock albums? I can't say enough good about this collection for any fans of melodic hard rock. Strongly recommended purchase.

***** - FIVE STARS
===================

What a wonderful find!!!

HARDLINE cranks out some of the best RNR I've heard in quite some time. I want to thank all of the previous reviewers too, I would not have purchaced this without reading all of them. The 5 star reviews were dead on too. This is a RNR masterpiece....

If you like your RNR with power, style, and flawless musicianship, this is certainly the purchace for you. I'm a big fan of all 80's RNR, from Aerosmith to ZZ Top, and this is certainly worthy of the high praise it recieves. I only wich I had bought in back in the 90's when it was released....

GREAT CD / EXCELLENT / A MUST BUY!!!

First things first, this album featured Neal Schon of Journey on guitar, and he was one of the main songwriters for the band as well. For those who like Journey, if you don't mind your music a little more aggressive (closer to Whitesnake in the heaviness category), you will be wise to dive right in, as will all fans of any good AOR/pop metal/hard rock. This album simply smokes, it is considered one of the all time classics of AOR by those in the know. Released in 1992, it didn't do much business, though I believe Schon's name helped the band get on bills with Van Halen and Extreme. The rest of the band is solid too, especially vocalist Johnny Gioeli (formerly of hair metal unknowns Brunette). I remember sitting around at age 9 writing letters to the band, and wearing out 2 copies of the cassette and 1 of the "Can't Find My Way" single before finally buying the CD. I guess its a bit of nostalgia creeping up on me because this was one of the first albums I ever owned, but I can say without fail that along with Harem Scarem's "Mood Swings", Double Eclipse is one of the best hidden gems of heavy melodic rock.

Best Tracks:
"Dr. Love" - Blistering guitar work, with a chorus that just explodes out of the slower verses.
"Everything" - Should have been all over radio, I guess it was just a little too late. A hit in any other year (this had the bad luck of being released in '92).
"Hot Cherie" - Cover of the Danny Spanos single, the original didn't do much business and neither did this one. But this cover is unbelievable.
"Can't Find My Way" - A slower ballad that might have been even better if it was a bit stripped back, this was the 1st single as far as I know.
"I'll Be There" - Similar to "Everything" for its hands-in-the-air qualities and monster chorus. Maybe the closest to the Journey anthem sound of anything here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous Rock Journey Left Behind, November 3, 2000
This review is from: Double Eclipse (Audio CD)
This is the greatest achievement so far of Neal Schon(Early Santana and Journey guitarist) besides Journey masterpieces. Compared with Journey, this is much more solid. Journey was often despised by hard rock fans as "soft". Journey broke off in mid 80s with Raised On Radio having full of ballads. Unlike Survivor their archrival during 80s they couldn't make hard-edged album as Too Hot To Sleep. Journey became more commercially successful than Survivor but they missed a chance to show the rock fans around the world that they can really rock hard. Neal Schon did it with Double Eclipse(intriguing title--- eclipsing Santana and Journey Neal used to belong?)

My favorite tracks are Dr.Love(Compare this version with that of Steelhouse lane"Metallic Blue") Hot Cherrie and I Will Be There.

If you are a Journey fan you can never miss this one. Want to know what is melodic rock I often mention in my reviews? This is impeccable melodic rock of 90s. Recommended for true rock lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why did this music ever go away?, September 18, 2005

Growing up in the 80's was a great time, mainly because of the fantastic metal/heavy rock that came out at that time. Ratt,Def Leppard,Dokken,Whitesnake,Scorpions, and on and on and on. The music had a great beat, hook and harmony.Hardline was as good or better than any of these bands except for one thing. They came out in 1992 right when that lousy Seattle grunge junk was making a splash. Hardline, with the great Journey lead Guitarist Neil Schon made a top flight album. The giutars were heavy and the harmony was great. Top notch melodic rock if ya like that stuff. I vaguely remember them from back then with the minor radio hit "Hot Cherie" but thanks to XM radio, they finally get their due even though its 15 years later! Their second album, released in 2002 is just as heavy minus, Schon. Rumor has it that a third album is in the making. IF you love 80's heavy metal with a melodic sound u need to buy this album along with Hardline 2. It will not disapoint.

I've lisened to 'Double Ecipse' a lot and I never get sick of it. I'll sit there and lisen to it forever. Every song is just so perfect, the musicanship is top motch. I can not express my opnion on this c.d. in 1,000 wprds really, in fact I can't. This c.d. is great and to really know what I mean, you would have to lisen to it yourself, it will not dissapoint anyone! I wish Hardline would release another effort but Niel is in Journey and the frontman of Hardline now fronts Axel Rudi Pell's band on thier new c.d. and I hear he does an awsome job, a must for any Hardline fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back when the music was real, June 15, 2005

This cd takes me back a lot even though I had previously never heard it before. I instantly started to compare it with other groups like Trixter and Warrant. I so love the fact that I can explore music on Amazon that I would otherwise not be aware of. This group should have been a lot more successful and well known but however they brought out this album at a bad time for rock when things were turning to grunge music and Nirvana.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brandon Lee+ Rapid Fire= Double Eclipse, January 9, 2005
This review is from: Double Eclipse (Audio CD)
I can still remember when i first listened to this album. I was still in college at that time (2nd Year to be exact.)This is one of the best albums i ever listened to. I did not expect too much from this band. Since at that point in time i don't know them.. When I opened the inner sleeve i found out that one of the members is Neal Schon (Journey and Shadow King).

So without hesistation i played the disc. Found out that its one of the best cds ever released. OUTSTANDING CUTS:"I'LL BE THERE" and "CANT FIND MY WAY"... grab this album together with Shadow King.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitly a Masterpiece, December 5, 2001
This review is from: Double Eclipse (Audio CD)
There are few albums out there in the market like this one. This is a powerful album, full of strenght and love. Killing guitar melodies and incredible vocals. Songs like "Can't find my way" and "In the hands of time" are unquestionable masterpieces. If you enjoy the heavy metal style of bands such as Guns N Roses, Skid Row or Cinderella, you will love this album. It's even better than Skid Row's and GNR's debuts. Hardline is (was) definitly one of the best heavy metal bands of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, August 2, 1998

This review is from: Double Eclipse (Audio CD)
Double Eclipse has twelve really good songs; I love them all. I sometimes find that my albums contain the songs that I bought them for and the songs that I don't particularly like/leave me disappointed and feeling ripped off e.g. Jewel - pieces of you. However Hardline have produced a wonderful rock n' roll album and the singer Johnny Gioeli has a wonderful voice. It is such a shame that good old rock n' roll is "unfashionable" at the moment songs like "Hot Cherie" and "Takin' Me Down" would have done really well in the 80's.As far as I know this band broke up after making Double Eclipse, which is such a shame, I would definitely have bought their next album
