The information in this review should be applicable to Chick comics: "Alberto", "Double Cross", "The Godfathers", "The Force", "Four Horsemen", and "The Prophet".

If you've ever read "Alberto" or "Double Cross", and found the story of Alberto Rivera to be the best evidence against the Catholic church, you probably thought this is the greatest,.... that's because it's a fictional story. After growing up with Chick comics and only later in my life beginning my walk with Jesus, I decided to re-read the old comics and being someone who likes to research I decided to look into Alberto Rivera, and I did not like what I found: criminal record, fraud, and no evidence or documentation of him ever being a Catholic priest (impersonating a priest to get into Spain, maybe). In 1964 he said he had left the Catholic Church in July 1952, but he later put the date at March 20, 1967. In 1963 he claimed marriage to Carmen Lydia Torres, and the couple had two children in the US when his story had him being a priest in Spain for that time. An article in Cornerstone magazine exposed that his three doctorates (Th.D., D.D., and Ph.D.), were fraudulent. In the Cornerstone article you'll also find that Alberto's sister was not even a nun.

Jack Chick subscribes to a form of the "Revived Roman Empire Theory" (for those that hold this view, research: the "Contemporaneous Beast View", the Biblical view) this likely lead him to believe Rivera's stories as true and print it in semi-dramatic comic book form.

I've read all of Alberto's work plus viewed his video seminars and he is a wealth of information to research on the inner workings of the Vatican.
