I bought this book because I love Beverly Lewis' writing and was pleased that she had children's books also. My girls loved the "chapters" and we read one every night. The story is, of course, predictable but the girls really enjoyed it. The Cul de sac kids love solving mysteries and it's fun to see how they will resolve the "problem." I recommend these books for their Christian values as well as the easy reading.

My daughter loved these books. Now my niece is enjoying them. THey're great for second or third graders.

I recently received a free copy of the The Double Dabble Surprise by Beverly Lewis from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book in a series called the Cul-de-Sac kids.
It's a short chapter book about a family in the process of adopting two Korean girls. When their plans get changed, and the sisters don't come, the family takes in two boys who arrived in the mix up. The family's two daughters have to practice what they've been taught about God's love and kindness. They have to learn how to deal with disappointment and accepting God's plans over their own. The outcome of the book is great. You have to read it to find out what happens.

My kids loved this book. They really didn't want to put it down until we finished it. It was a great real-to-life, comprehensible illustration of how in spite of our feelings we need to show God's love to everyone around us. And when our plans get changed, remembering God's sovereignty in everything that happens in our lives.

What a fun story to read with your child. It is a book written for seven to ten year olds but I have found that even younger then seven liked the story. Any child older then seven would enjoy reading it for themselves.

The story starts with two girls preparing for the arrival of two Korean girls the family is adopting. They busily paint the room pink and dress up some bears in brides clothes. They go to the airport with their parents and are surprised to see two Korean boys waiting. The family takes the boys home but the older sister is very disappointed that the girls did not come. The story goes on to descibe how she begins to warm up to the boys and in the end wants them to stay as her brothers.

There are some cute moments in the story that make you want to jump in the pages and join in the fun. This is a great and easy to understand story about families.
