Book Description

First impressions are lasting impressions...

Pastry baker Emmaline Sharp is one business connection away from turning her bakery into something more than the dessert shop on the corner. She believes she’s found Mr. Right in café owner Tobias Merchant. His Caff-aholic brand of freshly brewed coffee makes him the perfect partner. When she accepts a dare that thrusts her naked self into Tobias’ waiting arms, she jeopardizes her entire future. Emma will have to convince him to give her another chance, and somehow she'll just have to ignore the unexpected passion he ignites within her.

Tobias needs the connection with Emma’s bakery, Sweet Tooth, in order to liberate himself from the financial and emotional obligations of his past. Unfortunately, Emma's reckless behavior leaves him doubting she can be level-headed and business savvy. Every one of his instincts tells him to walk away, but she’s a temptation he can't seem to deny. He's inexplicably drawn to the lightness in her, especially when he knows just how dark the world can be. Against his better judgment, Tobias ignores his instincts and proceeds to form a partnership with Emma.

When their relationship shifts from business to personal, will Emma and Tobias be able to conquer their demons and find their sweet reward before the deal turns sour?

About the Author

Melissa Blue's writing career started on a typewriter one month after her son was born. This would have been an idyllic situation for a writer if it had been 1985, not 2004. Eventually she upgraded to a computer. She's still typing away on the same computer, making imaginary people fall in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, heartwarming and sexy as sin April 4, 2013
By Aimee
Format:Kindle Edition
This story kicks off with Emma partaking in a crazy dare to help cheer up her best friend after a breakup. This is the first time Emma meets Tobias, naked as the day she was born, with a cop car doing patrols of the neighbourhood. He saves her from possibly being lifted, even though he doesn't know she's his future business partner.

Tobias is utterly gorgeous, and the poor guy is getting over the murder of his fiancé. He's quiet, reserved, and the ex-cop in him can't help try to figure Emma out. He moved to town with his younger brother Josh--by the way, he totally needs his own story when he grows up--who Tobias has also been keeping secrets from. His first instinct is to protect those in his life. Though a bit stuffy in the beginning (the dare/stunt was frowned upon) Tobias quickly won me over with the way he cared for Emma and Josh.

Emma is the quiet one in her trio of friends. She's wary, a little bit of a pushover, and a queen desert maker. But she is in no way shallow. Emma has a horrid past, losing her parents at a young age and trying to make her way in the world. She hurts, she feels, she cares and when she does I was right there with her. Tobias managed to coax her out of her shell to the point where she even stood up to the strongest personality in her group, and I think I fell for him a little more around then.

All in all, Double Dare was a fantastic story and I can't wait for the second in the series, Twice Smitten. The humour one expects from a Melissa Blue story is inherent from the first page, right to the end. Both characters are a little broken, even though they may at times not think it, but they heal each other up nicely and I'm not ashamed to say I cried at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been 5 stars. April 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this story, at least half of the time. Some times I had to go back to re-read something thinking I missed a sentence or misread parts. The story itself was sweet and sexy, Tobias being a delicious leading male character and all, but the writing to me was a little scattered or flighty at times. To me it took away from really enjoying the book. I'm gonna re-read this because I loved both Tobias and Emmaline's characters along with Josh and her two besties. Feeling like I can't understand the jokes or the dialog is not the norm for me so I'll revisit this one, maybe I'm having an off day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Treat April 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow! Not what I expected, but was much more. I think the writer did a great job revealing how past grief of both the hero/heroine made them who they were when meeting each other. I really enjoyed that it wasn't a story based on sexual encounters, but an actual romance. Great read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucky Charm April 30, 2013
By Aja
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I truly like the way Melissa writes and "Double Dare" further solidified my strong feelings about her style. Her use of words- magical, witty. Character dialogue- engaging, funny, intimate. I felt like I was in the constant stream of consciousness of her characters, particularly Emmaline's.

At first it wasn't easy to follow but as Melissa shared Emma with me, I grew to understand her and her thoughts, her relationship with her friends and then with Tobias Merchant. He was my kind of man from the start, even if he wasn't Emma's but as he got to know Emma as Emmaline and she got to know that Prince Charming will not always sweep you off your feet, their love affair got hot fast and sizzled on the pages. Their love dance was executed to perfection with Melissa making great use of language to show me each move.

I enjoyed the first kiss and the last, the verbal foreplay, how hot gourmet coffee and "Late Nights" became a teasing appetizer for something completely satisfying but most of all I enjoyed how her characters came alive in this story. Great job Ms. Blue. Looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyed April 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved the back and forth dialogue of Tobias and Emmaline. This book made me smile.

I could see where their banter would irritate some readers, but I found it to be stimulating, fun, and quirky.

If you enjoy the type of book that requires you to really think about the characters, their conversations, and their relationships; then this is the book for you. It's not just the usual fluff that you run across.

I do admit that I was hesitant about the book after reading the first "dare", but, I did enjoy the read. I am going to have to purchase the second book regarding Abigail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Story, Great Characters but something was off April 25, 2013
By Ivory
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Emmaline Sharp knows pain but she has channeled that pain into a sucessful career and wonderful friendships.

Tobias Merchant has also known pain and loss but he is drowning in guilt that threatens to take over his life. Neither is what the other is looking for, yet they are exactly what the other needs.

The story starts off with a bang. Emma is acting out another of the outragous dares that she pulls with her two best friends. While running naked down the street she is rescued by this handsome stranger. A handsome stranger that off course turns out to be her new buisness partner.

This was an enjoyable story. I like both characters and how the author highlighted different ways that people deal with pain and loss.

The reason it only get 4 stars though is the language was sometimes off. Almost like it was a translation for another language. Phrases like "I woke up at dawn's crack." We don't talk like that. You would say "the crack of dawn". It was those weird moments that would pull me out of the story as I tried to figure out what was wrong. It was also descriptions like that which made the story seem to drag. It was strange because the characters would be having this great zippy conversation and then something would pull you out of the moment.

Over all it was a very enjoyable story. There was just something off with some of the phrasing.

Love this book. The characters seem to be so complicated with their baggage, but I love how the author makes love so simplistic. I finished this book in one day! Awesome.
