Hot and sexy book,
By Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
Double Dating With The Dead by Karen Kelley is an out of this world hot, sexy and fun read.
Psychic Selena James is tricked by her well-meaning mother into spending two weeks with skeptical writer Trent Sanders. Trent does not believe in ghosts and knows Selena James has to be running some kind of con. Selena has enough problems with her mother's interference now she has two sex-obsessed ghosts to deal with at the haunted Garvey Hotel. Trying to deal with Dixie and Wesley is bad enough but Selena finds herself wildly attracted to Trent. Trent thinks this will be a breeze. All he has to do is catch Selena pulling a fast one. But though he tries to explain the odd goings on he can't explain this over the top attraction to Selena. Double Dating With The Dead is a laugh out loud book. The wit and charm of the characters make this book a treat. The chemistry between Selena and Trent is smoking hot and delicious. A Karen Kelley book is a feel good read.

Spicy Hot Fun Read,
By
This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
Karen's latest read involves ghosts, a psychic and a skeptic. What a fun, hot read something that Karen does well, and is only enhanced in this book.
Trent Sanders is a writer, who publicly on TV states that he thinks Selena James, a well known psychic is delusional and a fraud. Now because of a public challenge in the paper after the show he finds that he must spend two weeks with Selena in the hotel that is known as the Legend of Garvoy County. The hotel is a legend yes, but ghosts noway! Besides that no one can talk to ghosts since there are no such thing. Well he was going to show Selena up for the fraud that she is. So what if it ruins her, people like her deserve to get their just dues. Selena has nothing to prove to anyone especially Trent who is such a skeptic, but she will make a believer out of him, wait and see. Mix in a couple of ghosts that like to play games and have fun but only show themselves to Selena. Then we have her eccentric meddling family who cause their own brand of trouble. Ghosts when angered want revenge. A little ghost dust blown around makes for erotic dreams, but are they really dreams? Trent finds Selena feisty, mean- mouthed and sexy as the devil. She sure is capable of turning him every which way. On the other side of the enemy camp, Selena is so aggravated by Trent but if that is true why does she fluctuate between wanting to have hot, steamy sex with him one minute and killing him the next. The reader is taken on a fun, hot, adventurous ride with this well rounded paranormal read. At what point does Trent realize that he doesn't want to hurt Selena and prove her a fraud? Can Trent and Selena get past their differences to see what is in front of them? Do we have more than two ghosts at work here? All the answers are between the pages and so much more. I highly recommend this book and have to compliment Karen on another well done story. Looking forward to more adventures from this writer.

Very hard to get through this one,
This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
The premise for this story was interesting; it's what had me picking it up. I had not read any other Karen Kelley books.
At first, this book was ok, the characters were interesting and the minor charaters quirky enough for me to like them. Selena has her fan club with her family and Trent has his brother. Included in this mix are the two ghosts that haunt the hotel they are staying in for two weeks. I kept reading, hoping that the story would suddenly engulf me and take off. Unfortunately, that never happened. I continued reading though I found my concentration slipping and having to re-read sentences. Basically, the story just remained ok. I found the sexual tension between Selena and Trent lukewarm, as if being thrown together automatically meant they should start sleeping together. And I figured out the ending ghost almost from the beginning, so no surprise there. I would suggest either buying this used or borrowing it from the library. I actually got mine from a bookstore going out of buisness.

I gave this book 3 stars because the storyline was almost fulfilling. I cared more for the background characters than I did for the two main characters, Selena and Trent.
* * S P O I L E R * * Basically the gist of the story is Trent hurts Selena's feelings by calling her a "delusional" on TV. Rather than demanding an apology, her mother puts a full page ad in the newspaper, calling out Trent to spend 2 weeks in a haunted hotel with her and say at the end there are no ghosts. If he can't say there are no ghosts, Selena wins the contest. The descriptions all say there are 2 ghosts, but in truth there are 4, a myriad of assorted "crazy" characters that hold the story together. There are comings and goings that didn't make a lot of sense to me. Like the gossip columnist, I think she was supposed to be the Arch-villain to the couple, this is before they decide to go at it like bunnies. But her character suddenly drops from the book when she is fired, there wasn't any rhyme or reason to her in the story. She just came and gives Trent an unwanted kiss and then she's gone. Oh an I didn't appreciate Selena's narrow-mindedness regarding the beliefs of others, namely Trent. To me her character was no worse than a TV Evangelist. Her character claimed to be psychic, and admittedly it was proven to the reader that she could see ghosts, however the ghosts remained invisible and obviously the skeptic, Trent, couldn't see the ones she could speak with. Like another reviewer, I kept waiting for the story to come together, but it didn't for me. I recommend you don't waste your money on this book, just go to your local library or used book store to get this book.

HOT `N SPICY PARANORMAL WITH A TON OF LOL MOMENTS!,
By
This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
DOUBLE DATING WITH THE DEAD, by Karen Kelly is wild, sexy romp of a paranormal that will make you suck it up in a day!
Selena James is a psychic with a very quirky family. She can communicate with ghosts, as they make their presence known to her. Trent Sanders doesn't believe in what he can't touch or he cant see, so he is out to prove that Selena is a scam artist and a fraud. Tricked by Selena's mother who issues a challenge to both of them, they have to spend two weeks at a old historically creepy, run down hotel. Trent is a pretty skeptical and cynical about ghosts and in the two weeks at the hotel, he is going to prove that ghosts don't exist. Selena's career is at stake. She can't allow Trent to disprove her theories and for her to lose her job at the newspaper where she writes a paranormal column. Ghosts exist, after all - it's just a matter of proving it to Mr. Infuriating, hot Mr. Miami Vice, Gorgeous Butt that ghosts do indeed exist. If she would just stop looking at his butt long enough to remember that - after all he IS the enemy and one doesn't sleep with the enemy... well, maybe in extreme circumstances! Throw in a couple of mischievous but well meaning sex-starved ghosts - Dixie and Wesley - a saloon girl and a cowboy who were murdered at the Hotel in the old west and you have a sure recipe for LOL moments and some very wicked, spicy fun! The chemistry between Trent and Selena is sizzlin' hot - you can almost feel it smoke right off the pages! Karen Kelly's narrative is terrific and the dialogue between Trent and Selena is witty and super funny as is the banter between the other characters in the story - including Dixie and Wesley. Loved it! Highly recommended!! 5+ starts! You wont be disappointed!

Double Dating with the Dead- A Joyfully Recommended Title,
This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
Selena James is a psychic. So why did she not give herself a warning as to how bad the last week was going to be? First author (make that sexy author) Trent Sanders, on TV, calls her delusional. This outrages her mother to the point that she challenges him to spend two weeks with Selena in the haunted Garvey Hotel. Now Selena has to prove ghosts exist, if she does not, then she has to answer to her private wager with Trent - one night in his bed. With two sex-starved ghosts in residence, it is more of a when, than if, she will spend the night in his bed.
Trent Sanders makes his living being skeptical and writing books expanding on his skepticism. If he can't see, taste or touch it, he does not believe it. He can see Selena James, and he would not mind tasting and touching her. Now, if only she was not a cheat. The dreams she evokes...well they almost make him believe in ghosts. Double Dating with the Dead is a funny, delightful read. It is an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening. Karen Kelley writes with a lovely wit that kept me turning the pages. I enjoyed this book very much and I highly recommend it. Barb reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

I don't usually read romance novels, so maybe that's the reason I had a hard time reading this book. I enjoyed the idea of the book and the story it told; I struggled with the not-so-creative dialogue, but then nobody writes dialogue like Dean Koontz! (different genre though!) Some parts were a bit funny. Overall it's predictable, somewhat shallow.

This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
This is a light-hearted book that revolves around a sceptic and a psychic staying in a haunted hotel to prove their respective points. There were some moments that made me smile, but none that made me actually laugh. It was OK, but not one of the great humerous romances. It felt a little short and underdeveloped. For the price, I recommend borrowing this from the library rather than buying it.

amusing paranormal romance,
This review is from: Double Dating with the Dead (Paperback)
Psychic Selena James is more comfortable chatting with the dead than the living when things are going right. However, right now everything seems wrong since renowned skeptic writer Trent Sanders called her a lunatic on TV. Selena could survive the hunk's skepticism as she is used to the scorn of the disbelievers, but her outraged mother attacked him to put up or shut up; Trent humorously accepts the challenge of spending two week s at the haunted Garvey Hotel where mom insists her daughter will prove ghosts live; well make that exist on the mortal plane.
Trent makes Selena a side bet that when no spirit shows up she spends the night in his bed. Selena feels caught by conflicting emotion as she wants to prove ghosts exist, but also wants to spend the night, make that fortnight in his bed. However, two other long deceased residents see the pair as the perfect vessels for a sexual encounter of the spiritual kind. Starting with the pinch in the butt, DOUBLE DATING WITH THE DEAD is a fabulously amusing paranormal romance. The story line lives up to its title metaphorically that is (not sure about that verb "lives" being entirely accurate) as the tale stars a wonderful enemy combatant lead human couple and impish matchmaking ghosts. Fans who appreciate a somewhat hot humorous humdinger with a different spin will appreciate Karen Kelley's superb story. Harriet Klausner |
