I have been trying this product for a week now on my dog who has thick tartar buildup around the tips of her teeth. The two ends are shaped into diagonal points, not rounded, and are sharp. At first I thought it would be difficult to safely scrap my dog's teeth without pricking her but they are angled just right and they slope down in opposite directions so both right and left handed people can use them. My dog does not have much buildup along the gumline so I only spent a few moments scraping up there. The tips of her teeth are trickier. At first I thought I would be able to pull of chips of tartar but it didn't work out that way. Eventually I just learned to be patient and began scraping the tartar slowly. It takes about 10 scrapes to see it slowly building up on the scaler. I had to take frequent breaks to let my dog adjust and relax but slowly it began to work. I worked on her teeth about 5 minutes a day for a week so far and they are looking good. I think this scaler is only meant for the outside of a dog's teeth because there is no way it is going to reach along the inside. You just have to be careful the dog doesn't squirm because you may end up injuring its eye if you are not very careful. I lay my dog down on her side and point the scaler down towards her chin, not up.

When I took my Miniature Schnauzer in to have his teeth cleaned, my Vet told me that it wasn't necessary to do a full cleaning under anaesthesia. She suggested that I do the limited cleaning that was necessary myself and demonstrated how using this tool. Her demonstration included a complete scaling of his teeth. She also suggested that I buy the tool from Amazon as it was less expensive than through her professional sources.

One must be careful not to cut the dog's gums and holding the dog still is essential to a good and careful cleaning. I have, subsequently, seen a video, on You tube, of anaesthesia free dog teeth cleaning which shows how to use the tool.

Product arrived exactly as specified, in a very timely manner. The tooth scaler was very sharp, as I would want it to be, so it could break up the plaque. My dog is 8 and has never had his teeth brushed and after a couple of 1/2 hour sessions with this, they look amazing. Yes there was some bleeding on the gums, just like when a human goes to the dentist, and I did slip once and bump his gums and they did bleed very briefly, but the trade off is definately worth it.

I think the customer service is important to mention. The shipping was essentially free and honestly I expected the tooth scaler to arrive in an envelope. But instead it was very well wrapped and then shipped in a padded envelope along with helpful information on how to use it. And it arrived very fast. Great doing business with this company.

Our 10 years old boxer had some build up tar tar and during annual check up the vet recommends for us to put him uder for some teeth cleaning. I hate putting Max under for no reason why so I started to look for other options.
I bought the following prior to ordering the tooth scaler:
1. PetzLife Oral Care Spray, Peppermint, 2.2 ounces
2. Proden Plaqueoff Animal

After a few weeks, there are no noticable differences on top of brushing his teeth 3x a week.

So I give in and purchase this scaler(last resort). I should have purchase this first!!
I use it right away and Max didn't resist at all to the scaler.

Pros:
Fast shipment - comes in padded envelope
Works really well with build up tartar - you have to scrape a few times and once a part came off the rest came off easily
No wait up - instant gratification

Cons:
Prepare for slobber ickiness!

Forget the rest of spray/dental wipes if your dog has thick build up this is the way to go!

I use this on my 5 pound yorkie... she totally tolerates it, and after seeing two other yorkies with the worst dental health ever and after almost losing my yorkie while under anesthesia for teeth cleaning, I decided to take better care of her teeth. I've used sprays, brushes, pastes, powders... some work, some it's hard to tell. nothing compares to scraping your dog's teeth... just do it.

I found the filling of the order, prompt, complete and fully satisfactory.
The Dental Tool served its purpose even better than I had hoped. The flat surfaces allow one to scrape the plak nearest the gumline easily and with a minimum of discomfort to the dog. It should be usable for any degree of dental abnormality, but the stress level in the dog and his trust in you may be compromised if the Plak is very pronounced.

I purchased this product last week and it did the job to remove brown plaque off my super-energetic Brittany within minutes. I was worried about hurting her gums, but the straight edge made it very easy to do. She sat good for me and I was done within 5 minutes. Like the other reviews stated, the plaque flaked off easily. I will try to work on the back teeth this week but it was her canines I was very concerned about. Her breath was instantly fresher as a result of the plaque removal. Fast service, good price, overall I'm very pleased.

I don't know how this compares to other scalers but I felt like the price was reasonable, it shipped very quickly and it works wonders! My little papillon had major plaque building up and I was so scared to have him put under to have a dental so I bought this and I've been cleaning his teeth myself. This works great and it scrapes the plaque right off.

My dog had pretty bad plaque on her 2 back teeth and this worked to get it all off but I couldn't get in the crease of her teeth because the tarter is on the teeth that are shaped different but yes this does work good and scraped it all off but just could not get in the cracks.

The double end tooth scaler is exactly as described. I have 2 dogs (both rescued) and one has pretty bad breath and "brown" teeth so I have been trying water additives, sprays, dental chews/treats, and figured I would try this too. At their age I do not want to risk taking them for a professional cleaning (not to mention the cost estimates of $400-1,500+). I just started using the water additive, teeth spray, and this scaler so I'm not sure which is helping most but their teeth and breath are improving.

As others have mentioned in the reviews, the scaler itself is good quality and the edges are sharp so be careful and do a little at a time. The storage sleeve mentioned is a joke. When I picked up the sleeve the scaler fell right out of the bottom. I'm guessing the sharp edge of the scaler punctured right thru the sleeve.

If your pets are relatively calm and submissive to let you mess with their teeth, I would recommend you give this a try. Just be patient, persistent, and careful!
