Larry Packard, a diamond in the rough.,

This review is from: Double Doglegs and Other Hazards (Hardcover)
Larry Packard revolutionized the ways in which golf courses were built and introduced the dreaded double dogleg to the demise of duffers everywhere. His life story is an inspiration of humble beginnings rising to become the echelon and benchmark of a successful career in golf course architecture. One can also see many of his artistic and creative influences on the college campuses of Louisiana, Chicago's O'Hare Field and in the city of LaGrange, Illinois - his former home. The book describes, in great detal, his childhood where he and his family moved all over the east coast, his love for nature and his logic applied to his passions for nature and animals. He is a new world man with old world ideals...an honesty you will not find today, approaching each of his projects with a conscientious, conservative outlook that always got the job done better than expected and most of the time under the client's budget. You will not find qualities like his in the business of golf course architecture or any business for that matter, today. He is a genius with a creative passion that can be an inspiration to us all. And, he's a heck of a Banjo player. Andy North eat your heart out!
