1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get much worse than this for Double Dragon, February 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Double Dragon 5 (Video Game)
This game is horrible and is a disgrace to the Double Dragon series. It is a cheap Street Fighter 2 ripoff. If you're a fan of Double Dragon games, stay away from this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor copy of a Street Fighter II game, October 18, 2001
This review is from: Double Dragon 5 (Video Game)
Take a trip far away from brawling on the streets to a cartoonish Street Fighter II rip off. This is a very poor game, first because it took you away from the past familiar faces of the Double Dragon games and replaced them with the characters from the cartoon series! Then, it puts you into a non random five person ladder tournament where you win a match and you continue working your way up to the Shadow Boss.

I always wondered why they never continued to make Double Dragon games once the Nintendo 64 and Playstation era came around. The SNES version of DD4 was OK but nothing compared to the NES or arcade versions, then this atrocity made its why onto my computer.

It is a cheap rip-off/clone of Street Fighter II. None of the charactors you can choose are even slightly familuer, the moves arnt that easy to pull off and it ends up a boring button masher.

No wonder Double Dragon never continued after they buried it with this garbage. This games even worse then watching the DD movie!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Super Street Fighter II Turbo. However . . ., November 1, 2002
This review is from: Double Dragon 5 (Video Game)
Street Fighter rip-offs seem to get a bad rep: video games like Fatal Fury, Fighters History, Kat Fight, and TMNT Tournament Fighters have gotten mostly bad reviews , this being one of them.
Double Dragon 5 is essentially a tournament fighting game based on a short-lived cartoon series that aired around the early-to-mid 1990's. I guess you could say it's a game based on a cartoon based on a game. The animation is a bit shabby and the moves are not very easy to pull off. I really don't know what else to write about this game.
Street Fighter 2 set the bar at a level few fighting games were able to reach - notable exceptions include Mortal Kombat 1&2 and the Japanese Super Famicom Dragon Ball Z series. As a result, more recent fighting games such as Eternal Champions and Double Dragon V have become underrated.
