5.0 out of 5 stars An instant classic, September 30, 2003
This review is from: Double Dragon (Video Game)
In 1987, Double Dragon set the precedent for side-scrolling fighting games. Play as Spike or Hammer, either alone or with a friend, and track down the mysterious Shadow Warriors who have kidnapped your girlfriend Marian. There are four stages total, the last one deep inside the Shadow Warriors' hideout, where you must defeat the machine-gun wielding boss. If you are playing a two-player game, Spike and Hammer must fight each other at the very end to see who gets the girl. Three buttons are used for punching, kicking and jumping. The jump button may be used in conjunction with the fighting buttons to execute special moves including elbowing and jump-kicking. Some enemies may attack you with weapons such as baseball bats, whips, dynamite, and throwing knives. You may disarm the enemy and use their weapons against them. Also scattered about the game are oil drum, crates, and large boulders, which may be picked up and thrown or kicked toward the enemy. Players begin the game with two lives; they lose a life when their health reaches zero. Indicators at the bottom of the screen show how much health a player has left and how many lives remain. This is a game that has stood the test of time and won, if you can still find it, you owe it to yourself to play this game, one of the all-time classics of our day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Double Dragon (Sega Genesis) Review, November 12, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Double Dragon (Video Game)
The Genesis version of Double Dragon is intresting, as a matter of fact it is an unlicense Sega game that's why the game is shape a little funny, the Genesis version is a good port of the arcade game since it is on a 16-bit console it was possible to do good transition of the arcade unlike the NES the Genesis version is basically an arcade port with no additional features other including the co-op mode that the NES version didn't have, another con though that it is short for a 2 player game unlike the sequels that took a little longer to complete, another thing the grapple holds from the back are not in this version which was cool in the arcade with 2 players one player grabs the bad guy from behind while the other just beats him up like a rag doll, despite the differences this is a pretty good game to get your hands on, it is better than the god awful Double Dragon 3: rosetta stones, this one you get a good decent port of the orginal arcade classic.
