5.0 out of 5 stars thrilling, romantic, and mysterious fiction. loved this book!
though this book is overly descriptive... as mentioned in the other review. i saw in no way that it hurt the value of this amazing novel. in fact this is a 3 part novel much in the same way as the lord of the rings.

if you thought jk rowling's harry potter was good, you'll like this book.

Piers Anthony's ambitious novel tells the story of a man who moves between worlds of science fiction and fantasy, assuming different powers in each. The worlds coalesce toward the end of the novel. One fascinating element of the story is a competition called The Game, played among serfs in the science fiction world. In it, a player can be randomly called upon to compete in any realm of human endeavor, from ballet to math problems to sword fighting.

Unfortunately, the book is written throughout in a maddeningly over-explantory style, along the lines of "He stopped for a drink of water. Water is used to quench thirst, and drinking is performed by swallowing liquid." (not an actual quote). I find it mind-boggling to think that any editor could have accepted this. I could probably myself reduce the book from 790 to 500 pages without leaving out a single detail. Too bad.

not because there is simply magic and good vs evil... but because there is so so so much more to it than just that... you never know what will happen next. and that is what i like about it. this book was a totally unpredictable read. i loved how it kept me on my toes. i would reccomend this book to anyone, and have to several. a beautiful story of love, friendship, and honor and all that sappy stuff that goes with it. but not overly sappy and boring like romance novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, July 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Split Infinity series is terrific showing Anthony at his most imaginative. Science and magic interweave and overlap with medieval culture to weave a tale of success through competence, agility and brains and to raise questions of basic morality. This is an especially nice series for teens. I am buying it for my 13year old grandson.
