Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Spacetime Continuum (a.k.a. experimental ambient maven Jonah Sharp) serves up a dependable if sometimes wandering ambient groove, split through a prism of acid jazz and light drum & bass. Less beat-driven than his last record, Emit Ecaps, Sharp's percussionist background seeps through the jerky rhythms of "Biscuit Face" and the detached time signatures of "Beveled Edge," all in the service of song textures and arrangements that absorb the listener, yet never truly catch fire. The sound can even be a bit cold in spots, relaxing on static beats that never really go anywhere. However, preferring to rest on the velvety edge of the dance floor has its rewards for the headphone-wearing wallflower, who will find treats in the sax solos and lounge-room sweep of "Freezone" and "Further Down the Road." --Matthew Cooke

2.0 out of 5 stars Odd album out, November 13, 2003
By Joe Majsterski "torchiest" (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
I'm a pretty big fan of Spacetime Continuum, and I loved loved loved Alien Dreamtime, Sea Biscuit, and Emit Ecaps to death. I looked forward to this album eagerly, but when it came out, I was really disappointed. While there are a few good tracks on here, mostly it is rather boring and poorly constructed. This album is definitely not worth buying new; pick it up used if you're a completist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant in every way!, June 22, 2002

Not only is this the best album by Spacetime Continuum, it's one of the best albums I have ever heard in my life. It's been three years since they released it and I still never find myself bored with it. I keep looking for similar music and have never found anything truly worthy. This album is a masterpiece; it defines beauty. I've never heard any electronica better. I am a better person for owning this CD and knowing such brilliance exists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart Jazzy, Mellow Ambience, May 5, 2003
By shoutgrace "savedbyhisgrace" (Charleston, WV United States) - See all my reviews
In 'Double Fine Time' you can really feel the fusion jazz in this. It's the genious of experimental ambient DJ Jonah Sharp. The saxophone used on tracks 2, 3,4 and 8 are Brian Iddenden (King of Iddland). Sharp lends his talents on the synths, sampler, drums and rhodes. Saxophone and harmonica on track 3 and 11 is Damien Masterson.

In 'Mircojam' you can feel the ambient grooves with synths, drums and lots of bass with harmonica. Best sax sounds come from 'Freezone' and 'Further Down the Road.' 'Beveled Edge' are uneven, detached rhythms. 'Compound' has a spiritual, yet spacy sound lots of synths and samplers work into this number. This album's driven on the heavy fusion jazz side and that's fine for all jazz enthuasists. I liked it as a smart arrangement that's good to dance to. This is good driving music as well.
