Great buy!,
This review is from: Double Headrest for Newborns & Infants (Baby Product)
I bought one of these in ecru which matched my plaid print infant travel system perfectly. The two sizes were a wonderful option as my newborn had a very small head and his head would have been flopping around without the additional headrest. As he grew and gained more control of his head I removed the interior headrest and continued using the large (outer) headrest which he has recently outgrown. He had developed perfect head and neck control/strength well before he outgrew it. I recommend this to all moms and dads to be. Buy it, use it, you will not regret it. It is well made, launders perfectly, and it is super soft. This mommy of 3 LOVES it. The best out there! People who say they are unsafe: I'm sorry but the amount of padding behind your baby with this item in place is no thicker than a baby's sweatshirt which puts the "padding compression theory" during a car accident to rest. You would never pick up your newborn without supporting it's head. Your Doctor tells you that you need to support their head until they develop sufficient head control and the strength in their neck muscles to hold their head up without fatigue. Why would you not follow through with Doctor recommended advice when transporting your child in a motorvehicle? For parents-to-be who are still unsure about using one of these in their car seat, I would ask your Pediatrician for their opinion on the matter. They have the knowledge and training to give you an answer that you can feel confident is safe for your baby.

This headrest is perfect. Since day one my daughter has been comfy using this. When she was teeny tiny the insert kept her head from flopping forward. Now that she is bigger we use it without the insert and she's still happy. At 4 months she has wonderful head control, but I wouldn't put her in her carseat without this. I tried the head rest that came with her Graco car seat and it was terrible. It sort of lets her head roll all over when we carry her from the house to the car. For a small baby I wouldn't even think about using the flimsy headrest they give you with the seat.

I bought this for my sister when she was pregnant and was still living at home. I am very close to her so I had the baby all the time. It was absolutely a lifesaver in the carseat because i didnt have to worry about his little head slumped over especially when he was a newborn and couldnt hold his head up by himself. I would definately suggest this, and for [the price] its a great thing to give your baby some comfort and you peace of mind that their head isnt rolling everywhere. it washes beautifully too! With my own little one on the way i've put 2 on my registry.

Not recommended by safety experts,

These types of items that you buy separate from the car seat and add to it are called "aftermarket products" and are not recommended. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians state that these products have not been crash tested and may interfer with the way your car seat was designed to function. Anything that comes with a car seat has been crash tested with the seat. Anything you buy to add to the seat has not. Nothing should go behind the baby or around the harness straps of the car seat. A better alternative to protect floppy newborn heads is to take a thin receiving blanket, roll it up and bend it into an upside-down "U" shape and place it around the baby's head. It is also crucial that your infant seat is reclined at a 45 degree angle so the baby's head does not flop forward and cut off his/her airway. (...)

Great for small babies,

This product was a lifesaver when I brought my daughter home from the hospital. She looked so small in the car seat that I was worried her head would move around too much while the car was in motion. After using this in the car seat, my worries were gone. It cushioned her head from bobbing all over the place.

Beware of advice that doesn't add up.,

I notice that a couple of reviews say something like, "don't use this product because it wasn't crash tested with your car seat." These reviews then follow up with, "use a rolled up receiving blanket, etc..." Note: your car seat wasn't safety tested with a rolled up receiving blanket either! This product is a problem if it interferes with your car seat. Does it prevent the restraint from snapping properly? If so, don't use it. It doesn't change the position of the baby relative to the 5 point restraints in our car seat. It doesn't prevent the buckle from snapping. The car seat still fits into the car seat base... I think it's a great way to add the cushioning needed for our baby's head without having to keep up with a separate cushion all the time.

Not needed,
This review is from: Double Headrest for Newborns & Infants (Baby Product)
I returned the headrest that I received at my baby shower. I found that the items I needed to use it with (the carseat, the stroller, the swing, etc.), came with their own headrest. Also, parents should know, that when I had my carseat checked by the sheriff department's trained carseat safety deputy, I was told NOT to use one of these in a carseat UNLESS the seat comes with one that is made to specially fit that seat. Using one in a seat that it wasn't made for can cause your child to fit improperly in the seat, putting them at greater risk for injury. The product may be a fine one, but I found an "extra" one to be unnecessary.

Not for carseats,
By

Although the product description says it can be used in carseats, according to the NHTSA, anything that was not crash tested in your particular car seat compromises its ability to protect your child! If you really feel the need to have head support, roll some light receiving blankets and put them around the sides of the head. Nothing should be behind baby or between the front of baby and the straps. Some carriers and carseats do have supports included with them. They are considered safe as they were tested with the seat.I give this product 2 stars instead of 1 because it is great for use in swings and bouncers, especially for tiny babies.

These did not work well for my daughter. It would end up behind her head, keeping her head forward and straining her neck.
