5.0 out of 5 stars Easiest to Use
As a server in an Italian restaurant, I have to open a plethora of wine bottles in front of customers. Based on experience with many different corkscrews, this is by far the easiest to use. It is one of the fastest and smoothest of any corkscrew I have experienced. I have, however, seen it other places for much cheaper than here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Substantially different from my other Pulltap!
I have two corkscrews before me, and although the style is the same, both differ greatly, especially in quality. One is a true Pulltap brand corkscrew previously purchased from another vendor, and the other is this supposedly "Pulltap" corkscrew. Unless they've changed almost every aspect of the manufacturing process, this is not a genuine Pulltap.

I am not a waiter that serves wine, an overseas traveler, or a wine expert. I am just a Joe Schmo that was looking for a corkscrew. I read the reviews on Amazon, and noticed this item had an average customer rating of 5 stars. Boy, were these customers on the money. I bought this rascal and am absolutely amazed that such a simply constructed tool can be so efficient. It works great. All the other fancy schmancy corkscrews may be cool to look at, or lend some self-prestige to the owner. Whatever, blows your skirt. This baby is all anyone needs to open a bottle of wine and enjoy it. Although I enjoy and trust shopping on Amazon, readers should note that this item is available at some stores for $10.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best--Period, October 13, 2004
This review is from: Double Hinged Waiter Style Corkscrew - Black
This is the best, easiest waiter's corkscrew I've ever used. My only qualm is that I've seen it offered for much cheaper than $19.99.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulltaps-The best functionality for less!, April 7, 2004

This is the opener I give friends who are serious about wine. No frills, just the easiest to use and always the first one I reach for. I have a collection of new and antique corkscrews-cheap to expensive and this is my functional favorite. Others may be a work of art (Laguiole, for instance), but this one works best.
The articulated arm for the bottle neck does it in 2 easy steps. I learned quite a few waiters here and Europe rely on this model as opposed to the single step arm on all other waiter's corkscrew designs. In fact, the first time I found one of these was in a wine shop in Toulouse, France. Imagine my surprise to find it was made in U.S.A!
I have found no can opener-I suspect they mean the foil cutter blade which is small and serrated. It works well, too.
There seem to be two versions-the cast alloy painted body and the much cheaper, but equally as effective stamped steel version.
Save your money for the wine! Get one of these asap!
Either way, you probably will also put your others aside for this little gem.
NOTE: Since at least 2009, Trader Joe's has been selling the stamped model for $2. At first, they had the original. Recently, they have switched to their own branded Chinese imitation for the same price. It looks similar but is obviously a copy. It does seem to work but have no idea about longevity. Priced to go with the "Two Buck Chuck" line of wine it seems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal gift for any wine enthusiast, October 17, 2005

I have prettier, bigger, and more expenseive wine openers but none of them match this Pulltap for being easy to use. The two stage design for removing the cork is genius. I've never broken a cork or struggled to break loose a particularly tough cork when using this Pulltap.

I hate to part with some of my fancy (and expensive) corkscrews, but the truth is that when I want to open wine easily and quickly... this is the tool I go to every time.

I give this one my highest recommentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Got mines at BEVMO for $5.99 plus tax, May 4, 2006

This works great and priced regularly at $7.99 at Beverages and More (was on sale for $5.99). The easiest corkscrew I ever used was the pocket screwpull which doesn't seem to be produced anymore, just the table model.

I dont honestly know where I first found mine, but I fell in love with it immediately. You never have to struggle with the cork. My parents recently discovered a love for wine and as a gift I was going to get them one of these. Well to my suprise, there is not a single shop in a 100 mile radius that carries this. Everyone still uses the one step approach or worse yet, the auger approach. Five stars all the way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Substantially different from my other Pulltap!, October 1, 2009
This review is from: Double Hinged Waiter Style Corkscrew - Black
I have two corkscrews before me, and although the style is the same, both differ greatly, especially in quality. One is a true Pulltap brand corkscrew previously purchased from another vendor, and the other is this supposedly "Pulltap" corkscrew. Unless they've changed almost every aspect of the manufacturing process, this is not a genuine Pulltap.

The genuine Pulltap screw has the logo stamped into the metal, which is bent squarely and solidly and with fair precision. On the recently purchsed one, there is no logo, and the sheet metal is lazily and ungracefully rounded. The genuine screw has more carefully finished bearing pins; the newer one has soft steel pins slammed in and the joints are stiff in some places and loose in others. The genuine features a main bearing with an even, flat contact surface -- one the newer one has the outer parts merely pressed inward. The newer corkscrew wobbles annoyingly.

At first glance it's a fairly good copy, and even with its imprecision it's a far better screw than most. Even with all my concerns, it's by no means a disappointment, because the design makes up for the manufacturing foibles to some degree. But if you want the genuine article, you should absolutely have it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor copy of a great corkscrew, May 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Double Hinged Waiter Style Corkscrew - Black
LilyHome is buying this Chinese copy and selling it as the real thing. LilyHome does not tell you that the real Pulltap corkscrew is made in Spain and is patented and is a much better tool. The handle of my Chinese copy broke while opening its forth bottle of wine. Amazon is putting their reputation at risk by not requiring a statement of country of origin in the description. Do not be fooled.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great corkscrew, September 11, 2007
This review is from: Double Hinged Waiter Style Corkscrew - Black
Every once in awhile, you get a cork that just doesn't want to come loose. I've always preferred the Waiter Style corkscrew, but a conventional one doesn't always get the torque that it takes to get a sticky cork loose (at least without getting your blood pressure up in the process). The two step system on the Pulltap double hinged corkscrew gets that extra bit of torque to get the cork out of the bottle, and then gives you that extra bit of travel it takes to get the cork out of the bottle without bending or cracking it.

The apparently teflon coated screw goes in easy too.

Great corkscrew!
