Editorial Reviews

Review

Review, School Library Journal, June 1, 2011
"Young students will enjoy the book for its play aspect, not realizing that the math lesson is built into it. Every elementary school needs this one."

Review, Booklist, July 1, 2011
"The bright, buoyant line-and-watercolor illustrations amplify the cheerful tone of the story while clearly delineating the objects meant to be counted. Useful for teachers and fun for students."

I purchased three math readers recently to try to help my five year old start learning the concept of math doubles (1+1=2, 2+2=4, etc). This was by far the best book of the three. The book reads like a story and has very cute pictures which even my 3 year old enjoyed. The book progressed by page through each of the math facts starting with the smaller numbers and working it's way up through higher numbers. On each page the author make the numbers applicable to real life and ties in the math equation so the child can start grasping this addition concept. For example, on the 2+2=4 page the book shows two little monkeys hanging upside down on the playground by their knees. The equation reads 2 Knees + 2 knees = 4 knees. This book takes something hard to grasp and makes it meaningful. I also like that on both the front and back cover all of the math doubles are written out so a child that is very visual can see them all together and study them. Thanks for a fantastic book!
