Book Description

April 1, 1996
A Choice "Outstanding Academic Books 1995"

Deconstruction, it seems, is dead. Its death, according to Jeffrey T. Nealon, is commonly attributed either to suicide--a direct result of its own decline into a formalism it was supposed to remedy--or to murder at the hands of the New Historicists. Looking beyond its presumed demise, Nealon sees its insights as continuing to figure importantly in postmodernist critical debates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction, June 17, 2008
This review is from: Double Reading: Postmodernism after Deconstruction (Paperback)
This is a great introduction to deconstruction and postmodernism, especially as they apply to the field of literature, but also in a more general sense. Although not an "easy" read, it is far more accessible than the works of Derrida or Foucault themselves (hence it's usefulness as an introduction - you are going to have to read the books discussed sooner or later if you are really interested). Texts by Pynchon, Sukenick, and the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E poets are used as means to explain concrete "problems" in the field of postmodern literature/philosophy. Jeffrey T. Nealon is a meticulous reader, with a clear prose and a sense of humour - what more could you ask for?
