Great compilation, but volume 2 is even better,

This review is from: Double Shot of Blues (Audio CD)
As I have noted elsewhere, the "Double Shot" concept is a real winner. In an uncharacteristic act of generousity on the part of the major labels (and the big five are all here), we are offered not one, but two tracks from 17 of the best of blues-rock over the last forty years. This set is a great introduction to the genre, but "Double Shot Of Blues Vol 2" is actually superior for the inclusion of acts like Cream, Little Feat, JJ Cale and The Band. Obviously, there's a bit of personal bias towards the late 60's - early 70's at work here, but, in my opinion, blues-rock (or should I say 'music') never got any better than in those few years, making volume 2 a better starting point for the tyro. The one advantage of this set, though, is the greater representation of Australian artists. Diesel reappears on volume 2, but the inclusion here of Cold Chisel and The Cruel Sea along side Southern rock giants like The Allman Bros and Lynyrd Skynyrd is a nice little ego stroke for we antipodeans.
