Incredible transformations, a bit slim on the details,
By A Customer
This review is from: Double Take: The Art of the Celebrity Makeover (Paperback)
This book is an incredible photographic documentation of the power of makeup, etc; and you will understand how much you can transform yourself when you see Devon Cass turn himself into Cher. Many of the transformations are just incredible--in particular my jaw dropped at Cher, the guy who did Marilyn, and the woman who did Mariah Carey. And there is lots of information on how to get there, with fascinating half-face makeup shots, advice on wardrobe, and even famous lines of the stars to give you something to say once you've gotten there. I dare say, though, that this book is, for most people, going to be something to gawk at rather than a guide to a halloween costume. Too often necessary details are missing--you are told what to get, then sometimes it is kind of "then go ahead and put it on the way Cher does"....not all that helpful all the time. But still, there's tons here, and lots of people will enjoy this book--I'd heartily recommend it for all you crossdressers out there; buy two and give one to a friend!

As a celebrity impersonator, I found Devon's tips invaluable,

As a celebrity impersonator who performs as Neil Diamond, I found Devon's make-up tips invaluable. In addition to featuring people who naturally resemble the celebrities whom they impersonate (such as Bette Midler as Gloria Estefan), Devon transformed a male who bore no natural resemblance to Liza or Ru Paul and made him over to resemble each. Amazing! I would recommend this book to anyone, in show biz or not, because it is most entertaining and informative. Tom Sadge.

This book is an amazing compendium of information and inspiration. The photos are remarkable, as are the effects of the makeovers on every model! Devon Cass REALLY knows his stuff, and he shows and demonstrates it ALL in this book! He's elevated celebrity impersonations into an artform, and chronicled every single step for the reader. Buy this book and be AMAZED at the transformative powers of makeup, clothes, hair, etc. to create indelible images.

Devon Cass looks so much like Cher it's frightening. He has done a wonderful job of bringing Hollywood glamour to everyday people, a skill which should be appreciated in our star-struck culture. Cass's photographs are beautiful and John Filimon's commentary is very engaging. One of the best books I've seen this year!

The truth is in the details,
By A Customer
This review is from: Double Take: The Art of the Celebrity Makeover (Paperback)
Devon Cass takes celebrity impersonators (who run the gamut from looking somewhat like the celeb to being virtually identical) and shows how they create the look. I was surprised by the detail that goes into every makeup job; sometimes it's not the gross features but the little things -- tiny birthmarks, dimples, the line of the lower lip -- that bring out the similarity.I found it useful (I've worked as a Fergie lookalike in the past) and also entertaining. Highly recommended

The talent Mr. Cass has is amazing!!!! Finally a make-up book that REALLY shows you HOW TO achieve the right look. Not only can you Glam up for a fun evening but, you can fine tune your everyday make up as well.DEVON'S TIPS are written with a fun and direct candor that you find yourself saying "I wondered how they did that" or, "I always wanted a fuller lip, so thats how you do it." Well wonder no more. The pictures alone are enough reason to buy this book.... After seeing first hand some of the transformations he has created, you might want to have your eye's checked because, you won't believe them. Also, I would like to add that yes, I did try some of Devon's easy to understand tip's and they really do make a difference. This book has taught me that even if I don't have it I can create it, and shine like the star I always wanted to be.
