This review is from: Double Take Out (Stevie Houston Mystery) (Paperback)
Double Take Out by Tracey Richardson
'When a ruthless businessman is found dead from an apparent drug overdose, Stevie has no trouble discerning that it's murder - with all the evidence pointing to the dead man's wife. But the hard-charging detective has difficulty maintaining her professional objectivity after discovering that the chief suspect had passionate affairs with numerous women ... including Stevie's own lover, forensic pathologist Jade Agawa-Garneau.' (Summary back cover)
Richardson writes very well, not surprising considering her day job is listed on the back cover as a journalist at a daily newspaper, at least at the time of the book's printing in 1999. I generally don't like lesbian mystery's where I know who did it in the first chapter, where the heroine is paired with an over-the-top red-neck male partner and the plot submerges any lesbian relationship action, i.e. relationship growth, acknowledging women-love, or sexual/sensual activities. Richardson's Double Take Out hit all the right notes with a tight plot where you don't know who did it till toward's the end, her police partner was her friend as well, and she grew a bit in her relationship with her lover. Some sex but a good read nonetheless.
On the hot meter this was a 4; on the love meter it was a 8.
**Remember - if you want your favorite authors to keep writing for us they have to be able to earn a living doing it. If at all possible try to buy the book NEW. I know it sucks but if you're not going to keep it in your collection put it in the recycle bin to make another book.**
