It was supposed to be a simple case. A simple body guard case that somehow went terribly wrong.

When Nancy Gilbert's sister, Tanya Stowell is murdered, the person she turns to for help is former Company agent Tom Casey. Afraid for herself and her family, Nancy hires Tom to protect her from her ex-husband who's just gotten out of prison. Believing Drew Harland, the ex, killed her sister, she panics when he suddenly turns up in town.

What Nancy, Tom, and his associates don't realize is that someone else is in the background with murder on the mind. When some of the main players, including the main suspect, start turning up dead themselves, Tom realizes that they could all be victims if this silent killer isn't caught, and soon! The question is are they too close to the forest to see the trees?

This is the stand-alone sequel to Ms LaPierre's THE ENEMY STALKS, and is every bit as good and then some. It takes place several years after TES and it was great to have a little update on how everyone is doing now.

DOUBLE TROUBLE is the perfect title for this story. It's exactly what Tom Casey, his wife Jennifer, and his associates have on their hands. For a while it's kind of hard to tell the warden from the inmates so-to-speak because at one time or another everyone seems to be a suspect to Tom.

Ms LaPierre does a terrific job of slowly revealing what she wants you to know. The plot is tightly woven, and the characters realistic enough to keep me turning pages as fast as I could read. I was as much in the dark as the characters about who was doing all the killing until the author finally gave enough clues for me to 'get it'.

If you're into suspenseful stories without a lot of graphic blood and guts you'll really enjoy this one from Ms LaPierre. I can highly recommend it

Double Trouble is the 2nd book of a series by Betty Sullivan LaPierre. The author's first book, The Enemy Stalks, was so exciting and fast paced, I was reluctant to think the sequel could measure up. Well, put those thoughts aside and enjoy! The author's amazing ability to make the characters live on the page creates intricate drama of murder, betrayal, love, greed and hate. The pace moves quickly with suspenseful twists and turns. I found myself rushing to the end to see how all the pieces and characters would fall into place. This book offers exciting entertainment and "double trouble" putting it down once you begin.

This book, the second of the Hawkman series, was great. I enjoyed the plot twists and not knowing who murdered a sister until near the end of the story. The author did an excellent job when she wrote this e-book!

The Hawkman and Jennifer come together once again in a novel you won't be able to put down until you've finished the very last page. Double Trouble has blended suspense and the human element into an intricately woven plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you watch this murder mystery unravel. Secrets, hidden hatreds, and betrayal come together to create a story that keeps you right in the middle of the emotions, and events portrayed. The intricate plot will keep guessing all through the novel, and will keep you turning each page with anticipation. Another excellent Hawkman novel.

The "Hawkman Mystery Series" are a pleasure to read! I already went through "Dirty Diamonds," "Diamonds Aren't Forever," "Angels in Disguise," and now am reading "Blackout" and "Double Trouble," together.
Ms. LaPierre, also knowns as the Silicon Valley Writer (I'd add to that: Terrific Pot Boiler) offers plots that are plausible, realistic, often inspiring, and entertaining. Be it on a rainy afternoon in your favvy rocking chair, or a sunny summer day in the garden, her hero Hawkman, the perennial good guy, can be counted on leading you into fast-moving vistas.

When you pick up a Hawkman mystery, you're guaranteed to get pulled into the plot. Once started, it's hard to put down a mystery by Betty Sullivan La Pierre.

DOUBLE TROUBLE begins with a bank robbery and a nocturnal visit to the home of Tonia Stowell. Drew Harland leaves her the key to a safety deposit box where he's hidden the stolen money, and then he spends the next eight years in prison.

Nancy Gilbert hires Tom Casey, a.k.a. Hawkman, to investigate the death of her sister, Tonia Stowell. Nancy is convinced her ex-husband, Drew Harland, murdered Tonia after being released early from prison on good behavior. Now, Nancy is convinced Drew is coming after her next, because he was an abusive husband and refused to let her go.

Tom Casey, aka Hawkman, is the kind of private detective you like to read about. He's big and bold and a cowboy type, yet he loves children and animals especially birds. Lapierre has cooked up another intricate plot. A murder, then a few more murders, a bank robbery which was successful only in that the money is not recovered though the thieves have to do the time. Lies and deceit and greed and seduction and a thrilling conclusion. It's a thrilling read.

The message on his answering machine was foreboding: "Mr. Casey, my name's Nancy Gilbert. I need your help. My sister's been murdered."

Hawkman listened with interest while hanging up his suit coat and pouring himself a cup of coffee. He snapped up his eye-patch and rubbed his eyes with his fingers. The injury he'd received while working for the Agency was still sensitive to light. He flipped the patch back into place, turned on the desk light and punched the replay button, this

time jotting down the information. Rolling his shoulders, he dialed the woman's number, then leaned back in his chair.

Fond of cowboy hats, falconry and fresh donuts, Private Investigator Tom Casey, aka Hawkman, takes on another case from his office in a small town in southern Oregon. Traveling between Los Angeles and Medford, he investigates first one murder, that of his client's sister, and discovers a possible blackmail scheme and a link to an old bank robbery. Betty Sullivan LaPierre has written this tale with a classic hero, several surprising plot twists and rich characters you really want to invite to the table at your daily latte breaks. Double Trouble is a literary roller-coaster ride, fast paced and very readable. When you reach the last page, you're sorry it ended so soon. Mystery lovers will feast on this book.

Second in the series, Double Trouble instantly makes you hungry for the third. We're eagerly waiting, Ms. LaPierre.

In DOUBLE TROUBLE, the action is split between Los Angeles and beautiful Copco Lake five years after the explosive events of THE ENEMY STALKS. Now happily living with his wife Jennifer and their 15-year-old son Sam, Hawkman is a hard working private investigator. He is hired by Nancy Gilbert to protect her from her ex-husband Drew Harland, who has just been released from prison. Nancy is convinced that Drew murdered her sister Tonia, and that she will be his next victim. She asks Hawkman to protect her and her family as well as investigate Tonia's murder in Los Angeles. As he gets to know Nancy and her politically ambitious husband, Jack, Hawkman begins to suspect that nothing is what it appears to be in this case. There are secrets piled upon secrets: the more he finds out, the more complicated and confusing things become. Why is Drew really looking for Nancy? Why is Jack so angry with Nancy? Is it more than a coincidence that Tonia's murder and Drew's release from prison happened at the same time? Who is Tonia - really? Is she the one at the center of this maze? And what about Drew's twin brother David? Hawkman must follow all of these threads in order to find the truth - a truth that no one was ever meant to know. At one point, Hawkman says, "We could be in for a heap of double trouble." That doesn't even begin to describe this case. There are layers of deceit and secrets: it seems that everyone involved had something to hide. There were points in this book that I couldn't figure out how on earth everything was going to be resolved. But it is! LaPierre skillfully weaves all of the plots and sub-plots together into a rich, satisfying story that is perfectly believable.

Once again, LaPierre has filled her book with colorful and interesting characters. Even those who play a minor part are fresh and real. No stereotypes here! The relationship between Hawkman and Jennifer has grown and strengthened over the five years between the two cases. Their love and devotion to each other and to Sam is obvious to the reader. I loved seeing the changes in both characters. Hawkman is content and happy in his new life, and Jennifer is confident in her career and her life with her husband.

I really like this book and this series! Betty LaPierre has written two wonderful stories full of winning characters and interesting, complex plots. I'm looking forward to Hawkman's next adventure.
