More About the Author

I was raised in New Orleans. After I married a Hurricane Hunter/Special Ops officer, we and our children moved every few years. Some of those places? Mississippi (recently devastated by Hurricane Katrina); California; Illinois and Florida.

I've been writing full-time since 1987, have written over thirty books--novels and nonfiction--and for the last ten years or so, I've spent a lot of time teaching new writers or running mentoring programs like WritersZone@yahoogroups.com, when I answer questions on the craft, business and writing life, sharing what I can to help. I also have a free online writers' library, ON WRITING, on my website:(www.vickihinze.com)that WritersZone members and others are welcome to use. Additional podcasts and feature articles are available there, too. I'm a sponsor of As a Mom--love their project teaching history--The Book Club Network, and of International Thriller Writers.

Between family and writing commitments, I don't have as much time for hobbies as I once did. My favorite? Home-improvement projects. I'm active in ITW, MWA, RWA, ACFW, NINC, ACRA, AG, AWSA and other writing organizations.

Blogs? Oh, yes. My Kitchen Table for chatting, On Writing about craft, business and the writing life. VICKI HINZE'S FAITH ZONE, on spirituality. THINKING ALOUD--a thought per day to ponder for the busiest among us. All are on my website at www.vickihinze.com/blog I love hearing from readers, typically via my website or Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vicki-Hinze/197809543636310) and Twitter ( http://twitter.com/vickihinze ).

5.0 out of 5 stars action packed military thriller, June 14, 2005
Air Force explosives specialist Captain Katherine Kane is in the Middle East trailing after a dangerous terrorist Thomas Kunz, a cunning person who runs GRID as a means to destroy America who he obsessively loathes. Thomas has replaced agents with doubles loyal to him. Katherine realizes she can only depend on herself, but the stakes are raised when Thomas abducts Americans to use as hostages.

Realizing she has no choice, Katherine turns to an outpost base commander Major Nathan Forrester for help. He is willing to work with her in freeing the hostages and capturing Kunz, but he also tries to hide his desire for the captain with a gruff exterior; in fact he fears commitment since his wife died a few years ago. However, as the danger mounts for Katherine and Nathan he realizes he can no longer ignore his heart's insistence that he loves his teammate.

DOUBLE VISION is an action packed military thriller that starts at high octane adrenalin levels and never slows down even when Katherine and Nathan display their growing love for one another. Surprisingly, even with the non stop action, the cast is solid and believable. Especially so is Thomas, a near perfect villain whose hatred of America and willing to do anything to harm Americans seems so genuine that he makes the tale even with two delightful opponents challenging his every move.

1.0 out of 5 stars Double Vision Blurry at Worst!, September 5, 2005
While Ms. Hinze is an award winning author and has a good premise for this book, she has struck out on this one because of too many errors in presentation.
Ms. Hinze opens with her heroine scuba diving. And, having a running conversation with a person topside. Now, just how does a person who has a mouthful of respirator for breathing under water talk? The heroine supposedly attacks two trained terrorists under water with mighty thrusts of a knife. And how exactly is this ferocious knife-stabbing happening against the drag of the water? Next, the heroine walks an hour across the desert to a tent city where, hooray, the "undercover" special forces also chasing the terrorists, has established camp. Since when would an undercover group ever pitch a tent city in broad sight of a terrorist camp? The leader of the special forces has a "private" who is there to assist him. NOT! Special Forces NEVER have extraneous personnel on assignment. The hero shows up in Tent City and refuses to enter the heroine's tent because of his high standards. But, what does Ms. Hinze have her heroine do? Enter the hero's tent without a second thought. So, we now have an unheroic heroine since her behavior demonstrates that she obviously has no moral standards. Of course, this happens after she has paraded across Tent City wrapped only in a towel!
And all of this is written into the first three chapters. After having my intelligence assaulted by such ridiculous errors, I threw the book away. I expect more from award winning authors.
