1.0 out of 5 stars cheese
this recording is dripping with all kinds of cheese.
gut wrenchingly smooth saxophone, bossa nova beats, sickly vocals.
i am a fan of some of the musicians on this album, (sanborn played with miles at one time, and gadd has played on some great stuff we all know - steeley dan, chick corea etc) but together they produce some absolute schmaltz.

This is wonderfully melodic and lush contemporary jazz. Al Jarreau joins Bob James and David Sanborn for a cover of Lenny Welch's "Since I Fell For You", one song that will make you fall for this album. The rest are memorable instrumentals that soothe and relax the listener better than a hot bath (or a beer, in my case). Most casual music fans don't even DESERVE a record this good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quintessential Jazz from the Best, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Double Vision (Audio CD)
I recommended this CD to someone today, remembering how pure and soothing the listening is. This CD is always in my travel CD case. It is the perfect jazz for any occasion, any location. The advantage to having it on trips is that I now associate this dulcet compedium with sunsets and special friends on Mexico's Gold Coast, sunrises in Santa Fe and now, the birth of my nephew. The perfect lovemaking music turned out to be the perfect backgound music for labor and delivery! Bob James is in rare form, David Sanborn as smooth as ever and a wonderful bonus is the delicious vocals by Al Jarreau. Wow. This was a classic as soon as it was released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth Jazz's Crowning Achievement!!, January 8, 2003

One of the top 10 Smooth Jazz CD's of all time. Bob James and David Sanborn's collaboration was a defining moment in music recording. Every song on this album is awesome!! Al Jarreau's vocals on "Since I fell for you" is mezmerizing!! "Matputo", It's You" and "More Than Friends" are incredible to listen to. But it's the classic, "Never Enough" that is clearly, the best track on this CD. I could listen to it all night!! Add this CD to your collection. It's Smooth Jazz at it's finest!!

5.0 out of 5 stars flowing for all occasions, February 29, 2000

This a great CD. It takes you where you want to be. "Maputo" kicks it off and makes you nod your head, eyes cloesd and puts a smile on your face as soon as Marcus Miller thumps that bass. Bob James and David Sanborn compliment each other very well on "It's you" as they do on all of the cuts. Al Jarreau's smooth voice flows on "Since I fell for you" and turns Sanborn into a backup artist on that track. The CD makes you want much more because there are only seven cuts and because it's contemporary jazz at its best. Pick it up!

I can't say enough about this CD - as soon as the first strains of Maputo ooze out, I am transported to another world, as I sit outside watching the stars with my guy, a nice glass of wine and a good cigar. When I hear this CD - all I can think of is - Life is Good! Seriously, this CD is a must-have for the contemporary jazz enthusiast. Do yourself a favor and add it to you collection if you haven't already.

5.0 out of 5 stars There aren't enough words to describe....., November 24, 2000
This review is from: Double Vision (Audio CD)
...this CD. I purchased this CD for the song "More Than Friends" as we were going to use it for our graduation slide show. My immediate feeling when I saw that there were only 7 songs was that I had been ripped off. I actually OWE David and Bob for this MASTERPIECE that they put together. Very few CD's that I own are what I would consider "timeless"..this would be one of them! From 1986 until now, this CD STILL is a favorite. Looking for a great "backbone" jazz CD? PICK THIS UP QUICK before it's out of print!

5.0 out of 5 stars The single greatest CD ever made, October 15, 2003

I was just listening to this CD on the way to work for the umpteenth million time and thought I would take a look and see the other reviews for this CD. Granted this CD has been around since '86, this has been one of my most coveted and cherished of all my personal possessions here on planet Earth. To see that there are so few reviews for this CD strikes me odd. Though I'm glad to see that it scores out as a "5". I still don't think "5" does it any justice--it should something like "infinity". Does the lack of reviews mean that there are so many ill-informed people or just that everyone already knows what a terrific CD this is. Whatever the case may be let me just tell you that I would give my right AND left arm to just hear the songs that only made it to the studio floor. If these 7 were the only ones that made it to the CD, what other treasures might exist. Again, this is my most coveted of all jazz CD's. The musicianship is unbelievable, unreal and out of this world. If you haven't heard this CD before then perhaps you haven't really lived!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sanborn and James magical, June 3, 2003
This review is from: Double Vision (Audio CD)
Simply put Double Vision is jazz at its best. I purchased this when it first came out. Lost it when i moved just repurchased it and just to say it is one of the best jazz albums of all time. The perfect combination of James and Sanborn is excellent. Maputo sets the tone for the album to sheer perfection. The other tracks just make the rest of the album a winner.

I've owned this CD for about 13 years and it still gets plenty of air time, because it is such an awesome piece of work, and is great for all occasions! David is one of my favorite sax guys and Bob is a master at the ivories and together they are truely fabulous! If you are any kind of jazz fan, you MUST have this disc! Best played at high volume!
