5.0 out of 5 stars Is that Kracker with a C? No, Kracker with a K!
I got this one as soon as it came out. There is no mistake that Kid Rock had a lot of influence on this CD. People have asked me about the CD and how it is, I have put it this way... It is basically the lighter side of Kid Rock. However, it still rocks and is really good. Some say that it is Kid Rock singing the whole time. True that he is on a lot of songs, but Uncle...

My little brother is a big fan of rap music and has a lot of rap albums, so when he asked me if I wanted to borrow and listen to Uncle Kracker's cd, I said no because I assumed it was rap. However, I heard the song "Follow Me" on the radio a few days later and I liked it, so I borrowed the cd from my brother.

While I was listening to the entire album, I found out that other than "Follow Me," it is a rap album. I'm not that big of a fan of rap music, but I do like a few rap songs. For this to be rap, it's really not that bad. It has "Follow Me" along with the other hits, "What 'Chu Lookin' At?," and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah."

Bottom line: Uncle Kracker's Double Wide album isn't some of the most memorable or the best music in the world, but for it to be rap, it's not that bad. If you just want the song "Follow Me," just get the single because you'll probably be disappointed to find out that all the other songs are rap instead of pop songs.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm Screwed, May 27, 2001

I'll be the first to admit it. I got taken. When I bought this CD I was hoping for a whole CD filled with "Follow Me" type songs, but to no avail. I find this CD offensive and, really bad. Please don't buy this CD...just buy the "Follow Me" single. There is no reason to buy a CD like this, and they just put out one nice, fine sounding, calm song, but filled the rest of the CD with JUNK!!!!! Don't buy this CD unless you sat on top of the microwave(or lived near power lines) when you were a kid!

any non-rap fans reading these reviews, there's only 1 song on this cd that's not rap. the song "follow me" is a beautiful catchy pop song which i heard on the radio. after reading customer reviews saying it wasn't just like kid rock, i bought it. if you are a rap fan & want it, i'll be selling my copy shortly after i burn a copy of "follow me".

I had hoped for more of the "Follow Me" type music. Not being a Kid Rock fan, I was disappointed with all but 3 of the songs

True that he is on a lot of songs, but Uncle Kracker sounds very similar to him. Don't be fooled. All you Kid Rock and Twisted Brown Trucker fans will definately like this one. Those of you who think Kid Rock is too hard, definately get this one. It is a good CD. My only complaint is that it is not long enough. A few more songs would really kick. Good songs include, "Heaven" (which is my favorite), "What'Chu Lookin' At", "Better Days" and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah."

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncle Kracker is one talented guy!, July 13, 2000
This review is from: Double Wide (Audio CD)
Uncle Kracker can do it all. Not a Kid Rock wannabe, but rather a man who is similar to Kid Rock who contributes to the mellower side of the rap/rock genre without sounding like he's a desperate rip-off trying to follow the latest trend. Great tracks include "Yeah Yeah Yeah," "What Ch'you Lookin' At," "Heaven," "Who's Your Uncle," and my personal favorite, "Follow Me." The whole thing is just a great listening experience. If you have any doubts about Uncle Kracker's ability or his legitimacy, I hope I've put them to rest. Go buy this CD! All fans of rap/rock should love it, especially if you're tired of the furious pounding beats that can sometimes numb your senses. It's a great departure from the heaviest of rap/rock, as it's mellower than the rest without hurting the genre's credibility. I say it's worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars This guy is good... real good., May 4, 2001

When I first heard Uncle Kracker's "What Chu Lookin' At?" on the MI2 soundtrack, I thought it was the best Kid Rock song I had ever heard. When I learned that it was in fact, Kid Rock's DJ, I was not surprised, but I ran right out to the store and bought the CD. I was not dissapointed. Uncle Kracker's sound is amazing. It's everything I like about Kid Rock, minus the cheesy pimp image and lyrics that hinder Kid's career. Kracker's sound takes the country influence a good bit farther than Kid Rock, and the music has a much more mellow, laid back feel. When the genres of rock, rap, and country, blend together right, few things have sounded better. The best examples of this are "What Chu Lookin' At?", and "Heaven" (with guest rappers Kid Rock and Paradime, who spookily sound almost identical to Kracker...). When I'm relaxing on a warm summer afternoon, there's nothing I like better than listening to "Steaks and Shrimp", the chilled out rap that never seems to take a breath. These tracks, and others like them are just perfect.

Why not a 5 then? Well, my problems are that 1) The album feels too short. 2)It doesn't really have that momentum that carries a true classic from beginning to end. The songs show up, they end, the record's over. But I am confident that on Uncle Kracker's next album, he'll impress me even more than Kid Rock did on his surprisingly great "History of Rock".

While I like the single released for radio, the rest of the CD is "Kracker" rap. If you're not a fan of rap (and I'm not), don't bother buying the CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars One good song is better than none...., May 24, 2001
This review is from: Double Wide (Audio CD)
I loved the song "Follow me" and I went looking for the CD without taking the time to really check it out. Big mistake! Most of the songs sound like rap (bad rap) and gave me a headache. I am not usually one to be turned off by "explicit lyrics" but this sucked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst CD ever?, July 1, 2001

I was really dissapointed by Uncle Kracker's, "Double Wide." "Follow Me," is an amazing song, but the rest of the CD is mostly rap. It's a shame Uncle Kracker wastes his time rapping, because he has much more talent as a singer.
