Since 1982 we've been teaching people to play rock guitar with the Complete Basic Course. In the beginning these lessons were taught on audio cassette, then videocassette, now we're on CDs, DVDs, and digital downloads. We call this The Complete Basic Course because it reflects everything that you need to learn to play in a band, jam with your friends or just have fun playing music. One of the great thing about this course is it continues to evolve because of you. You tell us what you want to learn and we try to make that happen. We occasionally revise the course and include everything that you request in the revision. This has been going on for almost three decades so we're getting pretty good at this. Today many guitarists are learning to play by studying video and tab on the Internet. What we can offer you that the Internet doesn't provide is structure. We you step by step through a process that has taught hundreds of thousands of people how to play guitar. When trying to learn without a plan it's very easy to spend months going down a path that leads nowhere. It's also possible to not understand a simple trick that's necessary to master a technique. We've guided thousands before you through this journey successfully. The course is divided into 24 weekly lessons and you're expected to study each lesson for more than 20 minutes a day, five days a week. Truth is some of these weekly lessons might take you a month or more to master. This is a process, a guideline, a path and we can't give an exact time that it will take you to master this information. Chances are this course will still be a reference for years to come. You'll find in studying our course that there is no substitute for the experience we've had teaching thousands of other guitarists just like you since 1982. I can't recommend this course strongly enough to anyone who wishes learn how to play metal guitar. And, as Doug mentions in his video, by 'metal guitar' I mean guitar in the style of 70's and 80's guitar driven hard rock/heavy metal (classic rock, by today's standards.) If you have any doubts, just do a search on youtube for metal method, or watch some of the videos on the Metal Method website.
I can't comment on what an experienced player would say about this course - the first time I touched a guitar was 3 months ago, and I have had absolutely ZERO musical training my entire life (other than listening to it!) For beginning player, however, this course shines - it doesn't assume any previous knowledge is known by the student. Doug starts from the very beginning and takes you from there. The exercises are well demonstrated and explained by Doug - easy enough to comprehend and play, yet challenging enough to keep my own interest and desire to master it and move on to the next challenge. Quite honestly, this course is worth five times what Doug charges for it, and it would still be worth every penny.

And after you buy the course, your learning doesn't stop there - the Metal Method community on their website is filled with friendly and helpful people who won't look down upon you because of your lack of knowledge or skill. I highly recommend frequenting the forums there after you purchase the course if you have any questions, or if simply you want to connect with other people, at any skill level.

This course will not make you a great guitar player - only your own interest and dedication will do that. But what Metal Method does do is give you the instructions and information you need in order to help you towards your goal, whatever that may be. If you are serious about learning guitar, buy this course!

One of the best guitar courses out there. I wish I found out about this product sooner. It would have saved me a lot of time trying to learn how to play the guitar on my own. I bought this mainly to learn how to play lead and it has helped me a lot. The lessons are presented in a very simple way. I was so impressed with the product that I recently purchased the Guitar Licks lessons on their website.
