Book Description

9 and up4 and upBook Report Biographies
Here is a series for students challenged with one of their most typical assignments: write a book report on a book of 100 pages or more. Each Book Report Biography tells the story of a significant person from the past (from politics, science, or the arts) or present (some of today's hottest celebrities and sports heroes).

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-10-The exciting and controversial life of this famous general is told in easy-to-read prose, with plenty of black-and-white photos. Readers get a feel for MacArthur's flair and style and a sense of his personal life. However, in trying to cover such an illustrious and colorful life in so brief a text, Feinberg has shortchanged her readers. For instance, the court-martial of Brigadier General Billy Mitchell is treated as a pivotal event in MacArthur's life, but it is oversimplified to the point of not even saying exactly what Mitchell did that caused him to be court-martialed-or what effect it had on MacArthur. The author also has almost nothing to say about MacArthur's failed political ambitions. The result is a book that offers little more than a lengthy encyclopedia entry. There are no quotes from MacArthur's autobiography or letters, or from others who worked with the general-or even against him. A bare-bones introduction to one of our century's most important figures.
