I wanted a butterfly net like the local park ranger uses when we go to help with the annual Monarch butterfly tagging project. This one seemed to be the closest I could find. It has an enormous diameter so I think even small kids will manage to scoop up something. The netting is a little shorter than others I have used but it looks like it will do the job. A drawback is that one has to supply a wooden dowel to make a long handle. Otherwise, it appears to be much more suitable and sturdy than the "toy" nets that are so common.

This net is Great! Not a cheapo...From the toy store. Should last a good long time. Ive been using it to catch insects for my chameleon to eat.You have to supply the handle...Which you can make any length you want. "Big Plus!" After I saw the first one, I bought another. From the photo, I thought this would be a smaller butterflynet but it is big enough to catch other lightweight creatures. It is well constructed and will be put to good use! It was delivered promptly.

I ordered two of these nets last Saturday. It arrived in the mail packaged carefully. I was blown away with the quality and sturdiness. Yes they are large. This is actually a professional net and I bet you will not find a better deal. I searched all over the internet for something like this and also wasted money on the cheap ones found at the bigbox stores. Cool thing is that this is the manufacturer, not a reseller. The hardware is sturdy aluminum. Not what you would expect for under $10. I doubt you will ever have to replace the bag unless you are terribly destructive.

I knew that it would come without a handle so that didn't bother me in the least bit, I just got a leftover stick from a recent project and screwed it on. It's big enough that you don't have to be perfect at every swing to make that great catch. I've caught tons of butterflies with this net. The mesh is perfect for gentle handling and despite my numerous run-ins with sticker bushes, it is extremely durable and not fragile at all. I would recommend this to anyone.

I didn't actually buy this to catch butterflies, I got it to catch flying empty cartridge cases from my pistol when I target shoot. I reload them and hate to go searching on the ground, in the grass, etc. so I made a stand to hold this net next to me and it works great, catching virtually all the cases. It does not come with a long handle (I knew this) but that was fine as I didn't need it anyway. I made a stand for it which holds it straight up.
For butterfly catching this net is still an excellent value (if it can catch flying cartridge cases I'm sure it can catch elusive butterflies) with good quality and it's the largest diameter I could find, plus a great low price.

If your child likes collecting bugs like mine, you need this net. It is so well constructed that I can envision it lasting for years. I also like the fact that you can add your own wooden handle. We got a wood dowel painting pole from Home Depot and attached it, so now my daughter can reach high places that other nets could not.

The price is amazing for a net of this quality. You will not be disappointed.

The overhang of the remaining portion of the net when it is folded over to capture an insect is not very long -- about three inches only. The rigid aluminum frame was crudely cut, with the cut on the handle not even at right-angles and with rough edges. Screw holes similarly rough and unfinished. Cheap but crude. You get what you pay for, I guess.

The other reviews are correct, you do need to get your own handle, but we found one that worked great.
I was tired of buying those $1-$5 nets at the stores and they break in like a week or two. My son is 6 and is really into bugs, so we go through a ton of bug nets. This one is great - it's huge - you really could catch a small animal in it and it is sturdy.
I'm so glad I bought it - it's great quality and a great price! I'm so done with buying the cheap plastic ones. This one is metal - kinda reminds me of a net you use at the pool to skim the water.

Received my order very quickly. It is a large strong net. You will need to get a handle for it, but that was no problem. Go to any building supply for that. Bought it for my little boy to catch insects and aquatic animals. He loves it.
