5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for propliner fans, February 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Douglas Propliners: DC-1 to DC-7 (Paperback)
Arthur Pearcy did a splendid job; a thorough work about propliners. Being in my forties I know propliners only from old movies and books. Pearcy's book took me to the beginning of commercial aviation, showed me "how things used to work" in those good old flying times. Also included,a rich number of unique photos collected from various sources and lot of data about Douglas propliners - it's what the title says; a real history from DC-1 up to DC-7c, including some less known facts from behind production line and airlines history. All main typs as well as subtyps of Douglas produced propliners are explained in tiny details, including some of them you probably never heard of their existence before. When you read this book you'll know for sure - jets are for kids.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good -- but not great -- book on Douglas aircraft, June 28, 2011

This hard-bound book, *Douglas Propliners, DC-1-DC-7,* by Arthur Percy, was written almost in the style of Jane's *All The World Aircraft* in an effort to outline the development-progression of the historically important Douglas Aircraft propeller-driven transport aircraft. As such, the book describes with good detail the timeline and development for each aircraft, but these descriptions are somewhat inprecise and grossly lacking in technical detail -- especially regarding the later versions such as the all-important DC-7A-C-series final DAC propliner. As such, I would not recommend this book as a serious reference book on the subject. In contrast, there are books written about the Lockheed Constellation, such as Claude Luisada's superb book, *Queen of the Skies: The Lockheed Constellation,* that are far superior in nearly every regard to this book on Douglas aircraft. It is the level of detail and organization in that book that sets a standard.
