Complete Pet Owners Manual Doves,
By
This review is from: Doves (Complete Pet Owner's Manual) (Paperback)
Out of the many books that I have purchased on Doves I have found no other resource to provide as in depth and informative insight on keeping Doves as pets as this book. It has information on the many difference species of Doves (some of which I never even knew existed), common illnesses associated with keeping them as pets and how to take care of them properly. If you are looking at keeping Doves as pets this book is your one stop shop and a must buy.

This book gives basic information about keeping doves as pets. It describes how to choose a healthy bird, gives brief descriptions of different species, describes some illnesses, goes into detail about breeding and genetics, all in all it's a decent book about doves. I was expecting more info on how to deal with diseases, more detailed advice on aviaries, this book focuses on indoor cages. I wouldn't call it a "complete pet owner's manual". Haven't found many books on doves so I'm glad I bought this one.

Good general overview but not very specific information,

This book is a good beginners guide to keeping doves. It has some guidelines on picking a healthy dove that were good, as well as general information on caging, behavior and illness. If you've read any other bird care book, however, you probably won't learn that much on these topics.
This book really fell short in regard to its coverage of different species. There was a brief description of some of the common and less common species, but sadly not each species had photos. In the chapter regarding breeding, it again was lacking species related information (clutch size, incubation days, fledge days, etc) and just included generic ranges of days that wasn't overly helpful. So, although this is titled the "Complete Pet Owner's Manual", I still found myself searching on the internet for information on my common species of doves. |
