From Library Journal
The Brick Mallery series belongs to the "theater of the mind" style of recording made popular in the 1970s by Firesign Theater. Mallery parodies the hard-boiled private eyes of the 1950s. Everyone talks "tough-guy" lingo, and the secretary wears red stiletto heels and smacks chewing gum, when not dodging bullets. Complete with sound effects, music, and plenty of action, these tapes will put your surround-sound stereo system to good use and introduce a new generation of listeners to this theater of the absurd. Mallery's dealings with the more bizarre crimes, those involving mind-control, cannibal vampire zombies, and talking shrunken heads, take him as far out of the realm of the common PI as this audio is from the "common" audiobook. Guaranteed to attract an "off-the-wall" group of fans. Recommended for libraries with popular culture collections.ATheresa Connors, Arkansas Tech. Univ., Russellville

As easy as it may seem to spoof those hard-boiled private dick tales, this group of Canadian comedic per-formers really cuts a linguistic rug in this, the third episode of their Brick Mallery series. The voices are all perfectly suited for each of the roles (hunky Brick, the wily mysterious man, lush gun moll, etc.). And be prepared to duck with the barrage of puns flying at you like rapid fire from a tommy gun. Some of the jokes focus too much on homophobic themes, but all in all the production is a fun one, good to lift your spirits on a blah afternoon. R.A.P. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
